We are at every single practice, every single Broncos event, and every single game, home and away. Let's dive in right now to the second injury scare for the Broncos in the second day in a row. On Monday, Luke Wattenberg left practice and did not return. On Tuesday, the same happened with Nik Bonitto. After Bonitto went down during a nine-on-seven drill, he limped to the locker room with two trainers next to him. Bonitto did not return to practice. However, just like Wattenberg, after practice, Sean Payton said he believes Bonitto will be quote, fine and had no further update on him. Wattenberg did not practice on Tuesday, but was at practice with the team today and looked like Sean Payton said yesterday that he's going to be fine. In practice, even without Nik Bonitto, Denver's defense dominated and that is for a second straight day that the defense won the day. As Talano Hufanga walked off the practice field, he told the media to make it known that the Broncos defense won the day. So I'm here making it known that they certainly won the day. There was no question about that. It started in those nine on seven run periods where after one nice JK. Dobbins run, Denver's front seven shut down the ground game. Justin Sternad, Eyioma Uwazurike and Zac Allen had tackles for a loss in three straight plays. That carried over into the team periods. Following a Bo Nix scramble up the middle, off play action, Zac Allen had a exploded into the back field for a tackle for a loss on a JK. Dobbins run. The following two plays were Jonah Elliss, Zac, then an RJ Harvey run for nothing. Outside of Bo Nix completing a 20-yard past Jaylen Waddle in the middle of the field on Pat Surtain, there were few highlights from the offense on the day. That continued today and really he's off to a fantastic start to all of training camp. The highlight of the day for Moss was a deep pass breakup on a throw from Bo Nix to Troy Franklin down the right sideline. Moss was in tight coverage, adjusted to the under thrown ball and swatted it away before Troy Franklin could get to it. Moss was in smothering coverage later in practice on two throws from Jared Stidham. I mean, he is all over receivers in practice. Hit and pass breakups and smothering coverage. And even when passes are completed on him, he is in the right position. So Riley, keep up this fantastic start to camp. Let's talk about the corner back to the opposite end of him. Pat Surtain versus Jaylen Waddle. The former Alabama teammates and top ten picks faced each other multiple times on Tuesday. And it was a treat to watch these two go after it with one another.
As mentioned above, Boat's highlight of the day was connecting with Waddle in the middle of the field for that 20-yard gain with Surtain in coverage. But Surtain got his revenge later in practice. In the final move the ball period, Bo tried his luck against Surtain again. And this time, however, had a different result. In the left flat, Surtain was all over Waddle and had a diving pass break up for the incompletion. After practice, Waddle said he loves going up against his guy who he went up against three years at Alabama and revealed that the two don't smack talk each other during practice. But instead, during off periods of practice, they give each other tips. They sharpen that iron with one another to get each other even better. And man, it is so fun watching two go up against 17 and have both of them win at times in practice. In today's practice, we had our first scuffle of camp. Near the end of practice, the Broncos had a little dust up. The first one of camp immediately following a Bo Nix incompletion to Evan Ingram on a crosser. Ja'Quan McMillian and Evan Ingram got into it. That immediately caused a massive pile up of players to gather around them. And it was quickly broken up. I didn't see any signs of a punch thrown or any violence really happening outside of, for a big scuffle that happened. After practice, Payton called it quote silly and emphasized that they need to get on to the next place. Even though it wasn't a big dust up, Sean Payton is not a fan of that. Couple of other notes from practice today before I've got a stadium update. So let's get to those notes from practice. Jaylen Waddle lit up when talking about two players after practice. The first was his quarterback, Bo Nix, who he said he quote loves. And said that Bo pulled him aside last week and said, you're thinking too much. Just go out there and play. And I'll tell you what, that worked because Jaylen is balling right now. The second guy that he lit up talking about was Marvin Mims. He said quote, I'm a big fan of Marvin Mims. I'm not going to lie. Said this with a big smile on his face. Then continued and said, Marvin is a big play waiting to happen. You've got to respect that type of speed. We all agree with you, Jaylen. Just imagine Jaylen, Marvin, Court, Troy, Pat. It's looking to be really fun, especially you throw Evan Ingram in that mix. It's looking to be really fun for Bo Nix in the pass game. Couple of other notes, Zach Allen said after practice, the Ja'Quan McMillian quote makes this whole thing go on the defensive side of the ball number 29 Getting a lot of love from his guy up front.
