Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch is fed up with flopping in the NBA. Hopefully the league cleans up that crap, this crap, because nobody wants to watch it. That's what they say with the feedback from the fans. They're tired of watching the flopping, and we know that because we rewarded at a high level. So just stop rewarding the flopping. The NBA said they're focused on reducing flopping this season by reviewing plays after games and potentially issuing fines when needed. Joe, I thought they had already done that. They said they were already going to do a $5,000 flopping fine if you flopped. I thought that was already implemented.
It was in for a minute, Unc and Ocho, and I guess they just said the hell with it. You know what I mean?
Chad Johnson (0:41)
You know why they say the hell with it, Unc and Ocho? Because everybody do it. Everybody do it. I mean, every so often. Now, there's some that do it a little bit more egregiously than others, where it's actually a part of their game. But everybody does it sometimes to get a foul, to get a call.
It's become a part of the game today. Yeah.
Shannon Sharpe (1:02)
It's the flailing when you barely get in touch and you see guys throw their head back and they be like, oh, it's hard. I think for refs, it may look, we get on the rest of the line, Unc and Ocho, but they got the hardest damn job in the game, bro. Yeah.
Chad Johnson (1:16)
They got the hardest job.
Shannon Sharpe (1:17)
Obviously, they can control a game, but they got the hardest job because you don't know what's really a foul, what's really a flop. I think it's so hard to kind of distinguish, but they got to crack down on it, bro, because the game is so watered down with that, bro. It's so watered down, especially when you get teams who win the penalty, meaning like we know y'all got five fouls, Unc and Ocho. Hell, I'm just trying to get any little call so I can get to the free throw line and get a couple of points, get a little rhythm. So yeah, they got to crack down on that straight up.
I think the thing is that the road makes it so hard. We get an opportunity to watch it in slow-mo. You get an opportunity to see a replay. They got to watch it in real-time and call it.
Chad Johnson (1:59)
And it's hard.
Shannon Sharpe (2:02)
I don't know because the last thing that you want is to say, oh yeah, throw it and say, nah, he flopped. And then it's not a flop. Yeah, yeah, it's a lie. It's so many rules to the game. Because now when guys go up to shoot, hell, you can't be under a guy when he come down.
Chad Johnson (2:17)
You know what I mean?
Shannon Sharpe (2:18)
So if he come down and step on any part of your foot, any part of your foot, Ocho, that's a foul. Regardless how you look at it. So it's hard to contest shots nowadays, just like in football. Hell, it's hard to tackle the damn quarterback because you mess around and put your weight on him, hell, that's gonna be a penalty. You know what I mean? So you kind of gotta try to manipulate the rules. And I think the great ones, they find a way in doing that. But yeah, man, we got this flopping that took over.
Yeah, guys done got really good at it. That's the thing. It doesn't matter. Guys get really good. Hey, guys do something long enough, they're gonna get good at it. And once somebody perfected, guess what?
Somebody else gonna perfect it.
Chad Johnson (3:01)
And it's a trickle of fate.
Shannon Sharpe (3:03)
Because boy, think about how many, would you say something, Ash? Think about how many times Harden, when Harden was in his prime, creating those, getting those calls.
Chad Johnson (3:14)
In Houston? Well, he was nasty.
Shannon Sharpe (3:18)
The boy was a demon. He was a demon when it came to foul-seeking, body-hunting. We call it body-hunting. When you can get in that paint, and you can play in traffic around a bunch of bodies, and it don't deter you or throw you off your game, James was elite at that. Because he will seek out your arms, your hands, when you reaching in there. Oh, that's a foul every time. That's why you see guys guarding with their hands behind their back, hands straight up. Because any time, bro, he gonna have an advantage, and you stick your hand in there, it's gonna be a foul. He gonna be shooting 20, 25 free throws a damn night. Yep.
