Welcome to a very special episode of Safety Third Podcast. Today's Doom and Gloom. This is the $8-a-gallon diesel special.
Kevin (0:14)
Are we dooming?
William Osman (0:15)
Did you know, Kevin, that to fill up the two diesel cans that we used for the tractor cost $90?
Kevin (0:20)
What?
William Osman (0:21)
Because you can fit a little more than five gallons in them.
Kevin (0:24)
I've got to be careful about letting it idle now.
William Osman (0:26)
Dude, yes. Like, did you know that your food gets delivered to grocery stores via trucks that use diesel?
Kevin (0:34)
Probably a lot more than 10 gallons.
William Osman (0:36)
Did you know, have you heard like the numbers like of like how much fuel a flight uses? And like, I talked to somebody, they told me, they like, give me a breakdown, like what private jets cost a couple weeks ago. I was just curious and they knew. And turns out that none of us in our lifetime will ever be able to afford anything like that.
Kevin (0:55)
Oh, it just, it's crazy. Even if I've ever seen the numbers.
William Osman (0:59)
Yes. So it costs like a huge chunk of the cost, like a majority of the cost apparently is just fuel.
Kevin (1:06)
Yeah.
William Osman (1:06)
So like, if a flight...
Nigel (1:07)
I think it was, if you've, yeah, for you guys to go to Europe, I think it's like a hundred and something thousand dollars or like a hundred grand in fuel.
William Osman (1:15)
Just in fuel for the big plane.
Nigel (1:17)
For, for like a moderately sized private jet.
William Osman (1:21)
Oh, yeah. I think it was like thirteen thousand dollars an hour. So like going across the US is like fifty thousand dollars one way.
Nigel (1:30)
That's what I'm saying. You have to come by. You ideally have to come back.
William Osman (1:34)
Could you imagine use all your budget for private jet one way and then economy back?
Kevin (1:38)
Yeah.
William Osman (1:39)
But like the cost is like fuel. And that's how they get like lettuce and stuff to the grocery store.
Kevin (1:47)
I got this ad for like a private like a private flight charter. Yeah. And they have like set destinations.
William Osman (1:53)
Damn, what are you searching for?
Kevin (1:55)
I have no idea, but I'm like, this is good.
William Osman (1:57)
Who did we invite over here?
Kevin (1:58)
I know.
But it's like you get a seat on one of these like mini business jets. You know, they probably have like twenty seats and it's like it's not too bad. It's like $5,000.
William Osman (2:11)
I have an idea. Hear me out.
What if we rent a private plane? So we rent a private jet and then to reduce the cost, we let people help, like people can sort of buy a pass to go on to the private plane.
Kevin (2:26)
Yeah.
William Osman (2:27)
What do you think about that?
Kevin (2:28)
I think that's exactly what this company is doing.
Nigel (2:31)
I think what you need to do, though, you could fit like 20 people on the private plane.
Kevin (2:35)
You need a luxury section.
William Osman (2:36)
So it's $20,000 divided by 20 So it's only $20,000 for a private flight. Now all of a sudden, it only becomes $1,000 each.
Kevin (2:45)
Yeah.
Nigel (2:46)
But if you could fit double the amount of people and half the space.
William Osman (2:48)
So what if we got a really big private jet? That's a really fucking good idea, Nigel. So what if we got like a private 747?
Kevin (2:55)
I don't know if that is the economy scale. You need a lot more fuel.
William Osman (2:59)
You need to sell like 500 private tickets on it.
Nigel (3:03)
You also need to sell like 10 premium tickets.
William Osman (3:06)
Oh, for like the people that want to contribute a little bit more. Because that would make it cheaper for the people that don't want to contribute as much.
Nigel (3:13)
Exactly.
William Osman (3:14)
So like if you had a friend that didn't have as good of a job, they could get the cheaper one. And then you'd be like, I'm going to cover for you, buddy. I'm going to get the more expensive one.
Nigel (3:24)
Yeah, that's a genius idea.
William Osman (3:26)
Someone write this down.
SPEAKER_4 (3:27)
John, write this down.
William Osman (3:29)
Okay, here's a question.
Kevin (3:30)
Say you only filled up like 19 seats on your private jet. Out of 20 Yeah, out of 20 And there's one seat left. Do you charge them more or less?
