Welcome to Sharp Football Analysis. I'm Warren Sharp and we've got an outstanding show today. We're at the pinnacle of the off season. We're ready to start the regular season and we are drafting all 32 teams. Whoever we think has the best chance at recording the most wins this year, we are going to select. I'm going to be joined by Rich and Ray and we're going to go through the entire board and give takes on all the teams, good or bad. So if that interests you, sit back, relax, and let's get into it.
All right, I cannot wait to welcome in Rich and Ray to talk about the upcoming 2026 season and talk about all the teams and which ones we like the absolute most. But before we get into that, I just got to say, this has been blowing up my timeline over the last 24 hours. So I got to talk about the Merril Hoge, Skip Bayless, discussion and or debate over Johnny Manziel. And in order to do that, I'm just going to set the stage. We're going to play this video right here of Merril Hoge discussing his logic on Johnny Manziel and Skip Bayless coming back with his loud mouth take about why Merril Hoge is completely wrong to have his own opinion. Let's dive into it here. So let's play the video.
SPEAKER_3 (1:53)
Are you saying that Johnny Manziel may not even be worth a pick in the first three rounds?
Merril Hoge (2:00)
Oh, I wouldn't.
The project is so massive. There are so many major flaws.
SPEAKER_3 (2:04)
So what are your thoughts about people who believe he should be the first overall pick in the draft?
Merril Hoge (2:11)
Listen, obviously, it's not a perfect science, but I think people who were taking in the first round.
SPEAKER_3 (2:16)
I took it first overall.
Merril Hoge (2:17)
If you took it first overall, I would think that staff would be gone in two years and whoever made that pick would be gone in two years. You don't make that pick based on the other players that are available to you.
You make that pick, we got a question. You're evaluating players and their transition and their ability to transition to the National Football League.
Skip Bayless (2:37)
Merril Hoge, with all due respect, you have never ever been more wrong in your assessment of a football player than you just were about Johnny Manziel.
Not only will Houston forever regret if they don't take Johnny with the first overall pick, but he won't be a bust, he's going to be a franchise player. He's going to be a star. He will make pro-ball.
Warren Sharp (3:04)
All right.
Look, obviously, we know that Merril Hoge was right and Skip Bayless was wrong. But to a lot of people in my comments on my timeline, they're talking about the fact that this is when ESPN jumped the shark in their analysis. They decided to pivot away from guys like Merril Hoge, giving their reasoned, researched analysis and takes that they stood on firmly, in favor of guys that don't have as much information, don't do as much work, just speaking in a loud mouth manner. They might be a little bit more polished or capable of delivering hot takes, but they don't actually put in the work to try to come up with the why as to the argument that they are presenting.
It seems to me that a lot of people, at least those that are on my timeline and engaging with this post, are now switching back away from that. They don't want the loud mouth, unreasoned explanation as to why different people are right or wrong. They want data, researched analysis that is supported by information, statistics, film review, and that's exactly what we plan to give you at Sharp Football Analysis all season long on this channel. So if that's something that interests you, we're going to move to multiple shows starting next week. When we dive into the week one NFL slate, we're going to be giving you great analysis from a variety of experts. If that's what you're looking for, make sure that you hit that subscribe button right now. Take that quick second, hit that subscribe button to get our style of analysis all season long. With that being said, I can't wait to get into this draft. Let's bring on Rich and Ray. Let's start talking about the 2026 NFL season and discuss all 32 teams and which ones we think are going to win the most games. All right, boys, we are back. It's time to introduce the crew who's going to be going through and drafting the teams that we think will win the most games. First up, we got to mention Penn State legend Ray Summerlin, two-time defending champ of this win total draft. Now, Rich has a win, I have a win, but Ray is off of back-to-back wins here. So we're going to mention Ray first and foremost. And then of course, our fantasy football guru and so much more than that, Rich Hribar, who's going to be a big part of all of our shows moving forward this season. He obviously is not the two-time defending champ and Ray has something to say about that.
