Game on, get your game on. Oh my god. Okay. I was waiting for you to try to start, it's like an interruption.

Paul McGee (0:09)

Okay, thanks, really.

Alec Fields (0:10)

Welcome back to The Pod of Greed.

Paul McGee (0:12)

Welcome back indeed, guys. This week, there's exciting Yu-Gi-Oh news.

Alec Fields (0:17)

Yes.

Paul McGee (0:17)

We won't be complaining again this week.

Alec Fields (0:20)

We'll see.

Paul McGee (0:20)

Maybe, no promises.

Alec Fields (0:21)

We might figure something out before it's over.

Paul McGee (0:23)

Yeah, but there's some exciting Yu-Gi-Oh news, like this new video game that was just announced.

Alec Fields (0:28)

We finally got a new-ish one.

Paul McGee (0:31)

Yeah, asterisk. And also, there's some other card game news. There's a little bit of a theft, I think, that happened.

Alec Fields (0:37)

Yeah, some stealing went around. Some Riftbound controversy.

Paul McGee (0:42)

Yeah, so a few things, cyberpunk cards going out, lots of different stuff like that. Lots of different things. So, before we get into all of that, remember to drop a like and hype the video if you're on mobile. Ones in chat if you're in the premiere.

Alec Fields (0:59)

Premier gang rise up.

Paul McGee (1:00)

And any other nice things you can do. It really helps out.

Alec Fields (1:03)

Say something nice in the comments. You know, compliment one person in the comments.

Paul McGee (1:07)

Yeah, that would be a nice thing to do.

Alec Fields (1:09)

I know we can't see each other, so compliment one person in your life. They don't have to know.

Paul McGee (1:15)

Yeah, dad. You're really tall. Good at that thing that you do for work.

Yeah, okay. So I guess let's hop right into Yu-Gi-Oh Tag Force GX.

This is a remake of the beloved Yu-Gi-Oh GX Tag Force III game. So yeah, they released an announcement trailer, actually just this morning when we were recording this, this was part of the Nintendo Direct that happened, where they showed that this game is a remake of the massively popular RPG, Yu-Gi-Oh GX Tag Force III, with modern visuals, enhanced dueling and nostalgic cards from the Yu-Gi-Oh GX anime era. It launches on February 16th. Pre-orders are available now on Steam, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, and there are also some special bonuses that we're going to get into.

Alec Fields (2:04)

Now, Paul, you know that our audience, these are basically just children. They haven't been around for very long.

Tag Force has not been around in quite some time. I feel like we need to explain what Tag Force even is.

Paul McGee (2:18)

Well, she's probably correct. I think half our audience is at least our age, but not everybody knows about Yu-Gi-Oh Tag Force games. So you tell me because these were on PSP, which was a console that I had, but I didn't play the Tag Force games.

Alec Fields (2:34)

I also did not play Tag Force games. Tag Force, for me, was ads in my Shonen Jump magazines, but I never saw Tag Force in the wild until like 2011, 2012

Paul McGee (2:47)

I remember hearing a lot about these games on PSP. I had a friend who had one. I actually had a couple of friends who had them and played them a lot. There's one friend I had who would hack the game, I guess like some jailbreak hack thing, to get all the cards and play test with them for the TCG. Well, anyway, these games are special because I remember doing a little bit of research into the gameplay of them for making some YouTube shorts and stuff and a retrospective.

Basically, there were 2D games, so you have a 2D sprite, but you did walk around, Duel Academy and stuff. It was an RPG.

Alec Fields (3:21)

You had RPG elements.

Paul McGee (3:23)

And you would duel, and you would have a tag partner.

And your tag partner was a character that, as you duel with them and talk to them and have interactions with them, you grow a deeper bond. So you could, I guess, maybe unlock some additional dialogues with them and stuff like that.

Alec Fields (3:41)

You could form relationships.

Paul McGee (3:43)

Yeah, you could date Alexis. I don't know if you were dating her per se, but you know.

So yeah, these are really cool games. And of course, it was just a duel simulator. And so people really liked these Yu-Gi-Oh games. I always have seen this era of Yu-Gi-Oh video games in general to kind of be part of the golden age of Yu-Gi-Oh video games. Like on the console side, I think that a lot of people look to like Duelists of the Roses as these games where they were trying a lot of inventive new things, right? Like alternate styles. I remember I was a false-bound kingdom kid, but...
