NEW Claude Code Mod Update!

There's a brand new update to Claude Code that basically allows you to, number one, change how it behaves, customize UI, and also swap in your own features. You can basically build your own plugins directly into Claude, and you can change and style it how you want. Now, this also works not just inside the terminal, but also inside the desktop app. You can either write this as TypeScript, or if you're non-technical, you can actually just describe what you want and tell Claude to build it for you. And these modifications ship inside plugins, and then you can install them as a plugin inside the CLI or the desktop app. Now, if you want to indicate how does that work in reality, so here's an example. This is Token Weather, and it basically adds a forecast of your context windows, how full it is, plus how much use over the last 12 turns. Here's another one. So this actually shows and catches risky shell commands as well before they run. And as you'll see, basically, you can fully customize it and it will appear on the right-hand side over here. So you can change and you can plug in and plug out different things inside all of your settings. Here's another one. This is Replay Theatre. And this basically, any sort of file edits you would make inside Claude, you can now edit them directly. So the cool thing about this is you can just customize Claude way better than you ever could before. And also you don't need to be able to code to do this. But if you're like, oh, I wish Claude did this, I wish Claude did that. It's quite easy to set up with this whole system. So I'm going to show you exactly how to do it. And this has documentation on Claude. But if you want to skip that, literally all you have to do is you go into Claude and you explain exactly what you want to do. So for example, here we said, can you build a plugin that allows me to see how many tokens we've used up on the right hand side and make sure it's actually working. And then you can see over here, it gives us a breakdown of the context window, how many tokens we've used, the session costs, plan limits, etc. And how many tokens we've used so far. Now also you'll see on the right hand side that we have multiple plugins. So for example, we built out a color theme plugin over here. So we can actually switch between them and switch between multiple different plugins that are going on. And also the great thing about this is you can switch between them and that sort of thing. Now the actual setup, as you can see right here, is labeled as a plugin. So Claude came back to us and said, I've built Token Meter, a pen on the right, blah, blah, blah. So you can decide whether you want to install it permanently. Now what that means essentially is you could just have a plugin inside one chat, which is quite often what happens with other open-source agentic harnesses, like DeepSeek, obviously Claude is not open-source. You're just making a few changes. But my point here is this has been done before. It's not brand new. However, it is new for Claude. And once it's done, you can change over the plugin, like see what Token Meter, and you could add that to all of your chats permanently. Or if you don't want to use it every single time, then you could just have it inside one single chat. So the cool thing about that is you could have plugins where it's just over one specific conversation, or you could add in multiple plugins, depending on what you need as well. Now, you might be saying, okay, why would you use this? I think it's quite useful if you just want to have something on the right hand side that helps with the conversation here, right? That might be a dashboard you're building. It might be another agent you're using. It might be the ability to switch between different models even. So for example, you could probably build in a plugin here where you can switch between the APIs that you use directly. And that's pretty useful. Now, also, you'll break down some ideas for you. Or the other thing you could do is you could say, OK, can you give me some ideas on plugins we could build that would actually be useful day to day based on what I usually work on and based on what you know about me?
And then you can actually get some plugin ideas based on what you work on day to day, and it can install them and set them up over here. So the key to this is understanding, OK, anything that you can imagine now, you can plug it into Claude as a plugin, and it's pretty much all going to work. So even, for example, having a memory and focus system, let's have a look what it gives us as some ideas here. So for example, it's got Deploy Guide, which basically avoids deleting some of my content, which Claude does sometimes if we deploy it in a different conversation. Usually I just keep that in the same context. Also a second machine check. So this will actually check, have we deployed content in other places? We also have other stuff, for example, like a posting session here, so we could see where we've posted our content.
