Mysterious Texts

Dan McClellan (0:00)

You know, I think it's really true that a good night's sleep is really the foundation for everything. Your mood, your stamina, your brain power. It's really after a good night's sleep that I am the most prepared to tackle my day, whatever that entails. And after a long day, I need a bed that actually helps me recharge. And that's why I really enjoy my Brooklyn Bedding Plank Firm Lux. It's a California king, by the way. I feel like I need to clarify that.

And I sleep hot, so I really appreciate the Glaciotex covers that they use on their mattresses that keep me from overheating. I wake up feeling aligned, rested. I don't crawl out of bed with an achy back anymore. That is a thing of the past, and I'm ready to jump into my day. It's not just a comfortable mattress. It is intentionally built for restorative sleep, and I really appreciate that about Brooklyn Bedding.

Dan Beecher (0:56)

Yeah, that Glaciotex that you were talking about is literally copper-infused foam and temperature-regulating materials that keep you cool at night. So that's nice, but that's not the only feature we're talking about here. Because the thing is Brooklyn Bedding knows that sleep is not a one-size-fits-all situation. You've got the firm mattress. I went with a more luxurious sort of pillow top. I feel like I'm sleeping on a cloud. I got the Sedona Elite. But they offer mattresses for everybody, every sleep style, even in hard-to-find sizes, as you like to brag about your California king.

But here's the kicker. Brooklyn Bedding also offers a 120-night comfort trial. You love it, or they'll help you return it or swap it hassle-free.

SPEAKER_3 (2:09)

K-pop demon hunters, Saja Boys' Breakfast Meal and Huntrix Meal have just dropped at McDonald's. They're calling this a battle for the fans. What do you say to that, Rumi? It's not a battle. So glad the Saja Boys could take breakfast and give our meal the rest of the day.

SPEAKER_4 (2:23)

It is an honor to share.

SPEAKER_3 (2:25)

No, it's our honor. It is our larger honor. No, really, stop.

You can really feel the respect in this battle. Pick a meal to pick a side.

Dan Beecher (2:37)

I participated in McDonald's while supplies last.

It's the worst written sentence ever. Remember how you vowed a thing that you vowed to fulfill? And then you fulfilled. I want you to fulfill the vow that you vowed to fulfill.

Dan McClellan (2:53)

Yeah. Hey, everybody, I'm Dan McClellan.

Dan Beecher (3:02)

And I'm Dan Beecher.

Dan McClellan (3:03)

And this is Data Over Dogma, where we increase public access to the academic study of the Bible and religion, and we combat the spread of misinformation about the same. How are things today, Dan?

Dan Beecher (3:14)

Things are good.

It's a fun show we have planned for everybody today, in part because even if you're familiar with the Bible, we're gonna be talking about things that you may not have ever heard of. And that's kind of interesting.

Dan McClellan (3:32)

I think so.

Dan Beecher (3:34)

So we're gonna start off with a chapter and verse, but it ain't a chapter and verse that like for the most part, for most of the people who are listening slash watching this show, you're not going to have it in your book. You can open you can open your book, but you're not going to find it.

Dan McClellan (3:54)

But you're going to find a version of a lot of it. Well, that's true, but not the whole thing. Yes.

Dan Beecher (3:59)

So we'll get to that.

Dan McClellan (4:01)

Yeah.

Dan Beecher (4:01)

And then and that's going to be that's well, I'll just say it's first Esdras.

So we'll figure out what that is. And then we're going to go and do a what's that. It's a what's that that we have mentioned that you have talked about briefly at various times on, you know, as we've done this show.

Dan McClellan (4:26)

It comes up from time to time.

Dan Beecher (4:29)

It's the Masoretes. And so we're going to do the deep dive that we've needed to do to really understand who these people were and what they were up to. So let's dive in with chapter and verse.

Well, Dan, we said it's first Esdras, apparently there are multiple Esdrases, but we're just doing the first one. And as we said, it's not in my Bible. So what is this thing? Where did it come from? Why are we talking about it?
