Myles to Go: Discussing the Garrett and Brown Trades

Welcome back to The Mina Kimes Show featuring Lenny, only NFL podcast. One of the hosts is rooting against the Knicks because they got a cat on their roster. That's Lenny. I think you've used that one before.
But I like the Knicks field. I don't know, do you have a strong clean in the NBA finals before we get to the Knicks show?

I don't. You know, I'm from Boston, so probably anti-Knicks would be how I, if I had to pick between one of those two teams, I'd probably pick the Spurs based off that principle here, Mina. But I'm happy, as company individuals, we are thrilled that ESPN not only gets the New York Knicks, largest media market in the country, but also Victor Wemba Yanma. This could be the first of several trips to the NBA finals, but the first carries a slightly different meaning to it. So I am pumped for tomorrow night.

Have you been following the whole, who is the NFL equivalent of Wemba Yanma, Wemba Yanma conversation on Twitter? In fact, I think Nicky Manwari crowned himself NFL wimpy, if I saw that correctly somewhere.

**Field Yates** (1:02)
Yeah, I would say that right now, Nicky Manwari has the right to say about whatever he wants to say. So if he wants to take the, I am the Victor Wemba Yanma, the NFL crown, it is his.
So I have also seen the Jalen Brunsell. I've seen the Jalen Brunson of the NFL parallel drawn by our colleague, Adam Schefter, who opined sort of like Drew Brees going to New Orleans, write a player who was viewed one way, goes to a franchise, completely changes the culture and also the success of said franchise. And if Brunson can lead the next to the championship, he would be viewed as definitely a Drew Brees type figure in New York.

Well, in my view, if there is an equivalent to Wemba Yanma so far as an NFL player who is an absolute alien, both in terms of physical everything and technique and production, it would be one Myles Garrett. And he has dominated the new cycle over the last 24 hours because in a blockbuster move, he was traded to the Rams. We're going to talk about that trade. And then we're going to talk about the AJ. Brown trade, which has kind of been like almost the forgotten. When I hit you about doing this pod last week, I was like, come on, let's talk about the AJ. Brown trade. It's really interesting. I want to talk about both teams. And then this Myles Garrett trade hit. We're going to hit both of those, maybe even get to a little fantasy stuff. I've been wanting to ask you some fantasy questions. But let's start with Myles Garrett. If you've been living under a rock, the Browns traded him to the Rams for, and took a second for all the comp to come out, 2027 first.
Jared verse. This was actually the biggest shock of all that verse was in the trade, in my opinion. And then a 2028 second and a 2029 third. So we'll get to the Brown side, I want to talk about the comp, I want to talk about Jared verse, I want to talk about all of that, but let's talk about it from the Rams side. Already Super Bowl favorites before they traded for Myles Garrett.
It's almost like hard to find a way to talk about this trade or I guess to talk about any downsides because he is so obviously the best defensive player in the NFL. Like I said on live field, I was like, I usually I come on, I try to give you like some cool stats that show you why a player is unique. Myles Garrett is literally first in every possible statistic. So I don't even know like what is the case against? Is there a case against it or is it just pure win and upside for the Rams?

**Field Yates** (3:30)
Yeah, I mean, this is pretty much clear upside and win for the Rams. Sometimes when a trade of this magnitude takes place or a player, not of this skill set, but of a high level skills that takes place, it's a team who has an egregious need that fills that need by paying a steep price to acquire that player. Maybe the Patriots and AJ. Brown, who we'll talk about in a little bit fit more into that category, right? The Rams were already one of the better pass rushers in the NFL last season. ESPN had them eighth in pass rush win rate. They've got building block defensive players and Kobe Turner, and of course, Jared Verst prior to this trade, and Braden Fisk, and Brian Young. There are a lot of really good players on this Rams defensive front. This was really just opportunity striking by the Los Angeles Rams persistence paying off. The only thing that I was thinking about, Mina, is what emboldens the Rams to do what they did, which is, I think in some people's eyes, going all in. The last time the Rams went all in, they of course won the Super Bowl, and then a year later, they ended up sacrificing a pick to the Lions, which was sixth overall. Yeah. So like the all in trade off was winning a Super Bowl and then having an absolutely wretched season the following year. They dug themselves out from that really quickly, which I think is a byproduct of obviously the organization being really good. They've got a great front office that has shown itself to be amongst the best in player personnel.
