Lisa Wilhoit (0:12)
Hey, I'm Lisa Wilhoit and I play Danielle Chase.
Bess Armstrong (0:17)
And I'm Bess Armstrong and I played her mother, Patty Chase.
Adam Dooley (0:22)
And I'm Claire Danes and I played Angela Chase. No, I'm Adam Dooley and I wrote this episode.
I actually came on the show from very early on. I'm the stepson of Winnie Dooley, Winnie Holtzman, as she's known here. And I came on as a PA in the pilot. I did a lot of driving. I was the office PA and I drove and drove and drove. I learned LA. I just moved out. I moved out here to work on this. I was there and was involved and saw the characters grow and develop and eventually had an idea.
Lisa Wilhoit (1:18)
My whole life is waiting for me.
Bess Armstrong (1:20)
You did Eleven just fabulously.
Lisa Wilhoit (1:23)
Thank you. I remember thinking it was so cool that I was able to have the thoughts in my head and thought I was so special for being able to have that part.
Bess Armstrong (1:36)
You got the narration in this one.
SPEAKER_4 (1:38)
Exactly.
SPEAKER_5 (1:41)
Patty, men love backs, OK?
SPEAKER_4 (1:44)
This will drive Graham insane.
SPEAKER_5 (1:46)
You will have an incredible weekend.
Lisa Wilhoit (1:51)
I love that my bangs are always like almost covering my eyes.
Bess Armstrong (1:55)
You could look at people more surreptitiously that way, you know?
SPEAKER_5 (2:00)
Where is he?
Bess Armstrong (2:01)
Oh, he's at another meeting with another potential restaurant investor.
SPEAKER_6 (2:05)
Oh, he's with that Hallie Lowenthal person?
Bess Armstrong (2:08)
Yes, and shut up.
I'm not upset because he's with Hallie Lowenthal. I don't remember the camera in the closet. It's clearly there. It was.
Adam Dooley (2:20)
Absolutely.
SPEAKER_6 (2:22)
I can't believe Marla is still dating Neil.
SPEAKER_5 (2:25)
I mean, how many years has it been?
Bess Armstrong (2:26)
Six. I know. It's like a prison sentence. How about this?
SPEAKER_5 (2:31)
I got it from that catalog.
Lisa Wilhoit (2:33)
It's truly amazing. I have the power to be invisible.
SPEAKER_6 (2:38)
Honey, why don't you go get yourself a piece of fruit?
Adam Dooley (2:42)
I think the actual narration for that character came out of Winnie, actually. It's funny.
Bess Armstrong (2:49)
Oh, you know, well, somewhere in the pilot, Winnie had said something to me about her.
Thought was that the narration, the voiceover, would shift from one kid to the other through the episodes, which I thought was so fascinating. But then it kind of stuck with Angela pretty much. And then there was one episode that Brian narrated. And I remember saying to her, oh, so now we're going to start this, right? And she's like, not really.
Adam Dooley (3:14)
So I remember as a viewer, because even though I was there, I was also consuming it as a viewer, getting very excited about that idea as well. So this was the continuation of that. And I think Winnie had a lot to do with bringing that voice in to these, to this episode.
Bess Armstrong (3:31)
Well, Lisa, I think you being the point of view on this episode is just genius. I love it.
Lisa Wilhoit (3:38)
You can actually hear what she's thinking.
Adam Dooley (3:40)
Right?
Lisa Wilhoit (3:40)
Danielle.
Adam Dooley (3:42)
And what's amazing to me is I have a son who's about the age that you were in this, and he's always with the games, and he's always got that same look on his face. It was timeless.
Lisa Wilhoit (3:52)
Yay.
SPEAKER_7 (3:53)
Oh, in such a big way.
SPEAKER_8 (3:57)
Danielle, why don't you go help mom pack? Hello?
SPEAKER_5 (4:05)
Yeah, he's here in just a second.
SPEAKER_8 (4:07)
There's Rayann.
Lisa Wilhoit (4:11)
Hey. Hey, it's the ray gun.
SPEAKER_5 (4:13)
What's shaking?
Uh, nada. So, Angela, like, barely said hello. Look, Rayann...
Bess Armstrong (4:19)
How about the fact that Rayann just called from a pay phone? We're so before the days of cell phones.
Adam Dooley (4:26)
That's true.
She would have been first in line for a cell phone. Bad character.
Bess Armstrong (4:33)
And did we take a moment to say, how wonderful is Mary Kay Place?
Adam Dooley (4:37)
We didn't, and we should have. But she'll be back.
Bess Armstrong (4:41)
Yes.
SPEAKER_8 (4:43)
No. Mom, she was being impossible.
Bess Armstrong (4:48)
Angela...
SPEAKER_4 (4:50)
This is a really...
Bess Armstrong (4:52)
We explored the family.
SPEAKER_5 (4:53)
Right.
Bess Armstrong (4:53)
We had Paul Dooley as my dad, and Barbara Bain as my mom. And, well, we had Roger Reese, remember, come in as a substitute teacher.
