Hello, and welcome back to the U Up Podcast Friday feels episode. I'm Jordana Abraham.
Jared Freid (0:32)
And I am Jared Freid. It is so good to be back here with you, Jordana. How you feeling on a Friday? We are virtual. We're taping from our little squares in both New York and Florida. How you feeling?
Jordana Abraham (0:45)
What a time to be alive to be able to do this, right? We talk a lot of shit about technology on this show, but I feel like it is kind of an amazing time to be alive.
Jared Freid (0:56)
It's amazing. You wish you could just agree on a spot to go, stop it right there. I think it's a little bit toothpaste out of the tube.
It's butterfly effect. Ask for one thing, get it all.
Jordana Abraham (1:15)
Do you think they said that when the TV came out, though?
Jared Freid (1:18)
Maybe.
Jordana Abraham (1:19)
Yeah, this is a little too far.
Jared Freid (1:21)
Right.
Jordana Abraham (1:22)
It's a little too far.
Jared Freid (1:22)
Right. Well, it's like the video games get too real and it's like the kids are all going to be, you know, demented from the video games that are too real. And now we keep pushing forward. You got, you know, you can put on the virtual reality headset and, you know, hang out with your AI girlfriend.
Jordana Abraham (1:40)
It was the best of times. It was the worst of times.
Jared Freid (1:42)
I think that's a big part of it. Well, you're pro, you're pro, like, if you know tech and advancement, you want spaceships and who cares?
SPEAKER_3 (1:55)
You're a deregulation queen.
Jordana Abraham (1:57)
I'm a capitalist queen, like my best friend, Taylor Swift, the two of us will just stop at nothing to create progress in this world. No, I just think like, you know, there's a lot of going on online about just like shitting on every like on the times that we live in. And there's just like such amazing things about it that I don't think that we're grateful for.
Jared Freid (2:20)
I think, you know, life is a scale, you know, like it's the Libra scale.
Jordana Abraham (2:26)
If you had told yourself 10 years ago that there is a drug out that could change your relationship with food.
Jared Freid (2:35)
Unbelievable. Yeah.
Jordana Abraham (2:36)
Would you be like, take me to the future? Take me to the future.
Jared Freid (2:40)
Right, let's go. We've done it. We've eradicated all my issues. Yeah, I don't know.
I wrestle with that because I do think, like I'm not a regulation person, like I want free markets, but then you go, you know, you look at the AI thing, which is seems to scape, like add a baseline, like agree or disagree with AI, like it scares the crap out of people. Oh yeah, and it doesn't scare.
Jordana Abraham (3:10)
It's scary. I would agree with that. Even as a pro, you know, again, pro all this shit person overall, I think it's scary too.
Jared Freid (3:19)
And I don't think the fear that people have with AI is even being addressed. Like I think, and I think that's the major thing. Like I think, I don't think it's a problem to do something risky and try to like do, you know, better, more, bigger, faster, new technology. But it would be nice to hear one person be like, yeah, we were keeping an eye on the thing that is making you the most fearful. Like, and especially when it's coming from people making the money from it being like shut up and, you know, and stop worrying about it.
Jordana Abraham (4:00)
Those people are starting to come around, I think maybe due to public opinion. Oh, did you see, I just read an article saying that they were supposed to release a new version of like the AI thing, and like they decided not to release it yet because they have to figure out some like potential issues with like it getting its ability to be like taken out of hand. So I do think there are, there is, because of this public backlash and because of, I think there are a little bit more, there's a little bit more caution being thrown at this than there was even six months ago.
