Technology shares pushed the NASDAQ to a fresh record high on the exact same day the 10 year US. Treasury yield closed at 5.31%.

SPEAKER_3 (0:38)

Which is, I mean, that really doesn't make any sense.

SPEAKER_2 (0:40)

Right. It's the highest level in over two decades, but the market didn't blink.

SPEAKER_3 (0:44)

You're looking at risk assets and safe haven yields surging simultaneously. And those two things move in opposite directions in almost every historical model we have.

SPEAKER_2 (0:53)

Yeah, exactly.

SPEAKER_3 (0:55)

There is just this extreme tension right now between the reality of incredibly expensive capital and the reality of record-breaking equities.

SPEAKER_2 (1:03)

Because a 5.31% yield fundamentally changes the baseline for how a company is valued.

SPEAKER_3 (1:07)

Right. It has to.

SPEAKER_2 (1:08)

In standard financial modeling, when the risk-free rate climbs, future earnings become less valuable, which usually just crushes growth stocks.

SPEAKER_3 (1:17)

So if the cost of capital is at a multi-decade high, why is half a trillion dollars flooding into the market in a single session?

SPEAKER_2 (1:24)

Well, because the equity side is completely ignoring the inflation warning coming directly from the bond market.

SPEAKER_3 (1:29)

Yeah, they really are. If you're not subscribed yet, take a second and hit follow on whatever podcast app you're using. It helps us keep making this. We appreciate you being here.

SPEAKER_2 (1:38)

So the S&P 500 rose 0.6% of this exact same data, moving within a fraction of a percent of its own all-time record.

SPEAKER_3 (1:45)

For anyone who doesn't spend their time building discounted cash flow models, it helps to understand why the bond market and the stock market are completely misaligned here. The bond market is essentially demanding higher returns because it sees structural problems on the horizon. Investors are saying they won't lock up their money for 10 years unless they get paid over 5% because they expect inflation to just eat away at that money.

SPEAKER_2 (2:06)

Well, the equity market is pricing in absolute perfection.

SPEAKER_3 (2:10)

Right.

SPEAKER_2 (2:10)

You have investors adding half a trillion dollars in market capitalization while completely ignoring the very metric that dictates how much corporate debt costs to service.

SPEAKER_3 (2:20)

And to figure out how that math actually works, you have to look past the broad index numbers and link them directly to the specific companies pulling the weight. I mean, the S&P 500 is masking what is happening underneath.

SPEAKER_2 (2:31)

Yeah, the primary engines of this rally operate independently of standard macroeconomic rules. Nvidia rose 2% to clear prior highs, and right alongside it, SpaceX surged nearly 8%, pushing Elon Musk's net worth back above the $1 trillion threshold.

SPEAKER_3 (2:48)

We probably need to reframe that SpaceX surge, actually.

SPEAKER_2 (2:52)

How so?

SPEAKER_3 (2:53)

Well, it's easy to look at a space exploration company and categorize it purely as aerospace or transportation, but the market is not treating it that way anymore.

SPEAKER_2 (3:03)

Right.

SPEAKER_3 (3:04)

Starlink and space launch capabilities are increasingly being priced as core artificial intelligence infrastructure. It's expanding the AI ecosystem far beyond terrestrial data centers.

SPEAKER_2 (3:16)

The market is definitely treating these specific growth stocks as a separate category from the rest of the economy. If you look at the technical momentum signals, specifically the Darius mutant momentum indicators, they're showing renewed strength for Nvidia after a period of consolidation.

SPEAKER_3 (3:32)

Hold on. For anyone listening who doesn't stare at technical trading charts all day, we should probably explain what a Darius mutant indicator actually is.

SPEAKER_2 (3:38)

Yeah, fair enough.

SPEAKER_3 (3:39)

It's literally just a mathematical tool traders use to figure out if a stock is gaining or losing momentum. It compares short-term price movement to long-term averages.

SPEAKER_2 (3:49)

Right. Trying to filter out the noise.

SPEAKER_3 (3:51)

Exactly. And right now, those indicators are telling traders that the buying pressure for Nvidia is accelerating again.

SPEAKER_2 (3:58)

But you have to question if that momentum could sustain itself when money is this expensive.

SPEAKER_3 (4:03)

Yeah, especially since SpaceX is hitting an earlier resistance zone on the charts. It broke above recent consolidation, but improving momentum eventually collides with historical selling pressure.
