This episode of The Truth contains strong language and violence. So if that bothers you or you're listening with kids, you may want to listen to something else.

Everything okay out here, Meg? Yes, yeah, I'm just mopping. Yeah, I thought I heard something.
SPEAKER_3 (0:19)
I knocked over the raspberry sauce.
SPEAKER_1 (0:21)
Okay, I have to run to the store, so if you finish closing before I'm back, can you lock up behind you? You got it, boss.
SPEAKER_3 (0:28)
Shit, shit, Meg, what did you do? Who's there?
SPEAKER_4 (0:34)
I cannot believe you just did that.
SPEAKER_3 (0:38)
You, you can't be here, I, I just.
SPEAKER_4 (0:42)
Killed me.
SPEAKER_3 (0:44)
I thought I, you.
SPEAKER_4 (0:46)
You did, you killed me.
SPEAKER_5 (0:49)
You are a ghost.
SPEAKER_4 (0:50)
I was just buying cookies from you and now I'm dead.
SPEAKER_3 (0:54)
I am so, sorry.
SPEAKER_4 (0:58)
You stabbed me.
SPEAKER_5 (1:01)
Tell me you're still open.
Jonathan Mitchell (1:02)
Hold on, Yuri, I'm getting coffee.
SPEAKER_3 (1:04)
Just closing, actually.
SPEAKER_5 (1:06)
It'll be quick.
SPEAKER_3 (1:08)
Okay, welcome to Cakery Bakery. How can I help you this evening?
SPEAKER_7 (1:12)
Give me three large coffees, one black, all with sugar.
Jonathan Mitchell (1:14)
Yuri, it's a sinking ship, sell it, make me a profit and get out.
SPEAKER_3 (1:17)
Would you like anything?
SPEAKER_5 (1:18)
I'm not done.
SPEAKER_1 (1:19)
And three blueberry muffins to go.
SPEAKER_3 (1:20)
We're actually out of muffins.
SPEAKER_5 (1:21)
Any kind of muffins.
SPEAKER_1 (1:22)
I'll take a muffin then, whatever.
SPEAKER_3 (1:23)
That is what I am saying, sir. We are actually out of all the muffins for the night. We donate them at the end of the day.
SPEAKER_5 (1:29)
It isn't the end of the day.
SPEAKER_1 (1:29)
You're open.
SPEAKER_3 (1:30)
We're actually just closing, so.
SPEAKER_5 (1:32)
Are you serious?
SPEAKER_1 (1:33)
Okay, fine, just the coffee.
SPEAKER_3 (1:35)
Okay.
SPEAKER_4 (1:37)
Are you going to kill him too, or am I special?
Jonathan Mitchell (1:45)
If you've ever worked retail, I'm fairly certain you've had the experience of wanting to kill someone. I'm not saying you would, but it can be a rage-inducing profession. I'm Jonathan Mitchell, this is The Truth. And in today's story, we'll look at a local bakery from the other side of the counter.
Murder at Cakery Bakery.

Now back to Murder at Cakery Bakery.
SPEAKER_5 (2:54)
It's dead here, huh?
SPEAKER_1 (2:57)
I guess because you don't have what people want.
SPEAKER_3 (3:00)
It was busy earlier. Been slow the last 10 minutes or so.
Nothing much happening.
SPEAKER_4 (3:05)
Nothing much? My corpse is in your supply closet.
SPEAKER_3 (3:09)
That'll be $7.50.
SPEAKER_4 (3:10)
Sir, can you hear me?
SPEAKER_6 (3:12)
These decorations are creepy.
SPEAKER_4 (3:13)
You're being served by a murderer.
SPEAKER_3 (3:15)
They're Halloween decorations.
Jonathan Mitchell (3:17)
Halloween is over.
SPEAKER_3 (3:18)
Yeah, we're behind. I think we're just bypassing Thanksgiving and going straight to the Christmas Hanukkah season.
Jonathan Mitchell (3:24)
Well, they're completely unappetizing.
SPEAKER_4 (3:26)
He's right, you know, they are.
SPEAKER_3 (3:28)
Here's your change.
Jonathan Mitchell (3:29)
Okay, I would have preferred a $5 bill to all these singles.
SPEAKER_3 (3:32)
Oh, you have a good night, sir.
Jonathan Mitchell (3:42)
Night.
SPEAKER_4 (3:43)
Hello? You murdered me, and now you're going to just wipe down a display case?
SPEAKER_3 (3:49)
Look, I can explain.
SPEAKER_4 (3:51)
Why you killed me.
SPEAKER_3 (3:52)
Yes. Well, I mean, no.
But, okay, well, here's the thing. We were closing in like five minutes, and I was alone, except for my manager, because it had been slow this last hour, so she said, once we'd cleaned everything, my coworker could leave. So she left. And then you came in, and can I just say, I was having a really bad day? It was raining today.
Everyone who comes in here on a rainy day is like pissed. Like I personally poured water into their shoes. One girl bitched at me for five minutes, because we don't have anything low Cal in this bakery.
