More Than Half the People Who Applied for Pokémon XP Didn't Get Invited
It's Super Effective: A Pokemon Podcast
September 7, 2026
130,000 people applied to attend Pokémon XP, but only 50,000 people got accepted. For Pokémon Worlds in Anaheim last year, Pokémon saw 30,000 people attend. We go over these numbers and viewership numbers for streaming that weekend.

Why does Progressive work hard for truckers? Because truckers unite the world. They unite kids with their first drum sets, and parents with earplugs. But truckers can't do this if they're not on the road. That's why Progressive has over 360 heavy truck employees to help truckers stay on time and on track. Quote truck insurance today in as little as eight minutes at progressivecommercial.com. Progressive Casualty Insurance Company and Affiliates.

What's up everyone? Welcome to the 737th episode of the Pokemon Podcast. It's super effective.
Steve Sarumi (0:50)
I'm your host Steve. With me is Bobby.
Bobby (0:53)
Hello. I feel like we've just turned into a recording at night now, instead of in the mornings.
Austin (0:59)
It sure seems like it.
Bobby (1:01)
It really does.
Steve Sarumi (1:02)
It's fine.
Bobby (1:03)
I like it.
Steve Sarumi (1:04)
Austin here.
Austin (1:06)
Hey, I don't want everybody to get up and cheer all at once, but I put some laundry away today.
SPEAKER_1 (1:12)
That's pretty big.
Austin (1:14)
There you go. Welcome in. I'm proud of you.
Steve Sarumi (1:18)
One week you're climbing Mount Everest, the next week you're folding laundry.
Austin (1:22)
It's a tough life out here.
Steve Sarumi (1:26)
We got a show for you guys today. We have some information post-Worlds about World's attendance and some records they broke and how barely anyone got into these special events that they hosted for Pokémon XP. We have famous people doing famous things like James Turner returning to Pokémon and Pikachu meeting Mr. Tim Apple. I guess Tim Apple doesn't work for... Well, he does technically work for Apple. He's just not the CEO anymore. Yeah. We do have some Pokémon Sleep news, but there is no new event this week in Pokémon Sleep. This is like the week before Mewtwo and we don't have that. I don't think we had anything new about Mewtwo prior to that. It comes in two weeks from this episode, but they did reveal a new accessory for Pokémon Sleep.
Then speaking of spending money, you can buy $400 worth of Blu-rays.
I'm not sure who's watching Blu-rays. No, I say that in like three people in the YouTube comments. I'll be like, I actually, physical media, I love.
Austin (2:34)
No, I was going to say we have to preserve physical media. Don't say no one watches them.
Steve Sarumi (2:39)
No one does. That's the reality is no one does. I have probably 40 Blu-rays in my basement.
Austin (2:46)
I don't know the last time I, yeah.
Bobby (2:49)
I don't have anything that plays a disc.
Steve Sarumi (2:50)
I have the Boomer Edition PS5 to play Blu-rays. I don't think I've ever used the Blu-ray player in it.
Austin (2:58)
Yeah, no, I have the exact same one. I don't know if I've ever used it.
Bobby (3:02)
I almost bought it. I almost bought that one to play Blu-rays and then opted to just keep my Xbox that has no disc drive. So there we are.
Austin (3:10)
You know what I'll do is sometimes I'll have a Blu-ray of a movie I want to watch. It's just so much easier to rent it on YouTube for a dollar and just stream it to my TV than trying to put the disc in.
Steve Sarumi (3:20)
I was looking at movies last night and I was like, oh, I own this movie. But this is only like $2.99.
Bobby (3:28)
Oh my God.
Steve Sarumi (3:29)
And I don't know where in my basement exactly this is. But then I have to switch to my PS5 and I've never used it. It could be broken for all I know.
Austin (3:41)
It's just the $3 to buy the movie is not. Yeah, it's so much better.
Steve Sarumi (3:45)
But anyway, anyways, we'll talk about that when we get there. And then if you stick around for our bonus segment, we will talk about the Sirfetch and Pichu information that came out from Worlds, which is the Wallace and Gromit people making Sirfetch and Pichu. So we will talk about that for our bonus segment over on patreon.com/pkmncast.
I know I say that, but I was told by Patreon that spelling it out and saying it is actually helpful to convert people to.
Austin (4:20)
There you go. That's true.
Steve Sarumi (4:23)
I'll say it like four more times this episode. And then hopefully at the end convince you to hear our thoughts on Sirfetch and Pichu. If you live under a rock, or maybe this is your first episode of the podcast you're listening to, we did do a bonus free episode this week. So we had our normal episode that came out on Monday, and then me, Austin and Bobby recorded on Wednesday night that came out on Thursday. And then there's a bonus to the bonus, which you can get on patreon.com/pkmncast.
