Here we are. At CarWeek. At the Hagerty House. At the Hagerty House. We are in Pebble Beach, but not on the beach.

Jason Cammisa (0:06)

That's to say, where's my umbrella and my tie?

Derek Tam-Scott (0:09)

And your beach ball, right.

Jason Cammisa (0:11)

You are going to, well, first of all, we're gonna talk about CarWeek.

Derek Tam-Scott (0:15)

We're gonna talk about this as The Carmudgeon Show. It is driven by Hagerty.

And presented by Jason Cammisa.

Jason Cammisa (0:22)

They know this, and Derek Tam-Scott.

Derek Tam-Scott (0:24)

Right.

Jason Cammisa (0:24)

What they don't know is that we're, well, they know now, unless they're listening. That we have a live studio audience.

Derek Tam-Scott (0:32)

Of, I think, eight people or similar.

Jason Cammisa (0:36)

Ten. Ten!

We did open it up to ten people, and we filled. We packed this stadium full of listeners.

Derek Tam-Scott (0:43)

Aren't you guys honored?

Jason Cammisa (0:44)

Okay, everyone's honored. Just ignore them. Hopefully they're out of focus, so you can't see they're sleeping.

The best part is that Derek is going to clap with the assistance of a...

Derek Tam-Scott (0:55)

I have a clapping assistance device. It is a piece of technology that is designed specifically for this purpose.

Jason Cammisa (1:02)

It says, it literally says, exclusively...

Derek Tam-Scott (1:04)

It says, Le Clap or similar, exclusively made for Derek Tam-Scott. There is a hyphen, to be clear, for use in Carmudgeon Clap or lack thereof. Disasters only. Well, this is just one continuous disaster. So everybody, you know, remove your headphones, and I will attempt to do this. Yes!

Thank you, thank you, thank you, everyone. Finally! Bravo!

Jason Cammisa (1:30)

Do you see what we're doing? We're clapping.

Derek Tam-Scott (1:33)

Thank you.

Jason Cammisa (1:37)

Keep going. Yes, stand up. Take your bows.

Derek Tam-Scott (1:40)

No, they're giving the standing ovation.

Jason Cammisa (1:42)

You can say, you can bow. You can bow. Bow, please.

Derek Tam-Scott (1:46)

To the egg.

Jason Cammisa (1:54)

And we're here in front of a live studio audience.

Derek Tam-Scott (1:58)

Or a similar.

Jason Cammisa (1:58)

Or a similar. Well, it's a live Hagerty House audience. We are recording live from Pebble Beach.

This is Monterey Car Week. That is Derek. You already know this.

Derek Tam-Scott (2:08)

Yes, we've already done the intro. We've established this.

Jason Cammisa (2:10)

And you did it quite clappably.

Derek Tam-Scott (2:13)

Yes, clappably. Is that like capably, but with clap? Yes.

Jason Cammisa (2:16)

It's spelled wrong, actually. It was just a typo. Would you like to explain how you've done this?

Derek Tam-Scott (2:20)

I have a prosthetic clapping device now. That courtesy of my friend Tom, who I guess, tired of watching me try to clap. So we have a device that now ensures that we clap reliably or I clap reliably.

Jason Cammisa (2:32)

Is that an actual clap machine?

Derek Tam-Scott (2:34)

Yeah. I mean, I think it's a professional grade device. Pro percussion. So it's designed specifically.

And I am, you know, a professional clapper. Probably the world's worst, but nevertheless.

Jason Cammisa (2:46)

Professional nonetheless. This is, I have also received a gift from our friend Tom, and it is a pair of bronze New Balance shoes.

And this is actually a great intro to Car Week, because Car Week is kind of like coming back to summer camp. I gave last year at Car Week, I brought a pair of New Balance shoes to celebrate his foray into American cars.

Derek Tam-Scott (3:08)

Those shoes have previous provenance though, we shouldn't gloss over that either, right?

Jason Cammisa (3:12)

Is that why they smell like that?

Derek Tam-Scott (3:14)

Tell us all about it.

Jason Cammisa (3:15)

These were the shoes that I used in two different Corvette episodes, I think, to make fun of Corvette owners who are famously prefer to wear New Balance shoes. And so to highlight Tom's advancing age, I gave them to him as a present, and he saw fit to give them back to me, bronzed.

Derek Tam-Scott (3:35)

He regifted them.

Jason Cammisa (3:37)

I mean, this is like, I'm going to have to now redecorate my house. So that I have a set of bronzed New Balance on them. I think that's the coolest thing.

Derek Tam-Scott (3:44)

All right.

Jason Cammisa (3:45)

Here we are. I mean, that's Car Week.

Derek Tam-Scott (3:47)

Tomorrow is Pebble Beach, so I anticipate I will see those out on the field.

Jason Cammisa (3:51)

I will not be wearing them. Wooden clogs instead would be, probably because they'll be more comfortable.

Derek Tam-Scott (3:57)

Right.

Jason Cammisa (3:58)
