What's up, everybody? Stormy Buonantony, Jonathan Von Tobel with you back here on Money Moves.
It's an incredibly busy Monday here on the show. Big news coming down the pike in both Philadelphia and Indianapolis that we will hit in a moment. While the NBA's opening night isn't until tomorrow, we've also got kind of like this mini sports equinox type of a day. So, so much to react to and preview. So, let's just jump right in with everything you can expect over what will be a jam packed two hours ahead.
SPEAKER_1 (0:44)
It's time for the top headlines and topics of the day. This is the rundown.
Brandon Kravitz (0:49)
Oh, let's get into it, JVT.
Stormy Buonantony (0:50)
It was a chaotic week in College Football to say the least. Five of the top seven teams in the country go down. The SEC continues to cannibalize itself. We'll talk through how what happened over the weekend impacts the week eight openers we have seen and do you approve this move? And of course, react to what was just a crazy weekend and call me crazy butt.
Jonathan Von Tobel (1:08)
And it looks like the one team at the very top of the country that was going to come through unblemished still loses its quarterback in Julian Sayen in Ohio State after a big win over Indiana. So yeah, it was absolutely chaotic, wild, wild weekend. Doesn't include everything else that happened in between as well. So looking forward to trying to get through all of it at this point. I feel like it's going to take every single one of our shows to sift through every single one of the results we saw in college football.
Stormy Buonantony (1:30)
No doubt about it. And we'll talk about a couple of quarterback injuries. Also another quarterback potential future benching. I'll tell you what that is and more in a little bit.
But also let's just call them the one away raise in Major League Baseball. A win tonight for Tampa Bay would clinch a meeting with Milwaukee in the World Series. We will preview that game, of course, as well. Raise minus one fifty five favorites against the Guardians to close it out tonight following what was back to back wins over the weekend, including a strong 3-1 final yesterday, JVT.
Jonathan Von Tobel (1:57)
And on the bump is Freddie Peralta, who has been nigh untouchable over the last month and a half. It would seem whatever the Rays have done with him in terms of changing his mechanics, asking what they're doing has been absolutely unreal. And the Rays have not lost one of his starts dating all the way back to August 21st. So this has been a very wild stretch of success for Freddie Peralta. Seems all but a given that the Tampa Bay Rays will be moving on to the World Series.
Stormy Buonantony (2:20)
That game and game two of the WNBA finals will be starting at just about the same time tonight. And speaking of hoops, I mentioned NBA opening night getting underway tomorrow. We'll peek behind the curtain there as well, talking through some futures, some day one lines. But as expected, lots of National Football League conversation on deck today as well, including a breakdown of Monday Night Football and what I am calling the Brandon Iyuk Bowl. 49ers hosting the commanders tonight, San Francisco land seven and a half, total 51 and a half. Iyuk Newsflash will not be suiting up for either team, but the Niners looking to stay undefeated. They've been the hottest team in the league to start this season. The commanders, meanwhile, looking to rebound from that crazy fourth quarter debacle a week ago.
Jonathan Von Tobel (2:58)
Yeah, I'm really excited for this game tonight. We'll see if the dogs are barking. But Jaden Daniels looked relatively good in the tie outside of the mental error at the end of the game against the New York Giants. So in the commander's defense is not good, but it seems competent in certain stretches and given all the injuries that are on your side of the football, we think seven and a half is something that commanders can stay inside of. But we will get to that in the reasons why coming up later.
Stormy Buonantony (3:20)
Yeah, we'll tell you how we see that game as well as Best Bets from Brandon Kravitz, Props Analyst over at Rota Wire. He's going to join the show in about 30 minutes. But okay, now that we have gotten some of the housekeeping out of the way, some shocking news coming down in the National Football League earlier this morning, the Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts is officially getting shut down now, JVT, for the rest of the year after doctors discovered blood clots in his lungs. And just to temper everybody's worst fears right off the top here, in the statement by his agent, Nicole Lin, she wrote that he is expected to make a full recovery. There shouldn't be any long term effects with this, but the treatment is going to take about three months as they put him on blood thinners and do other things. But here is where things get hairy. And you and I have been texting back and forth all morning about the different layers to this thing. As we learned last week before that London game that the Eagles played in week five, Hurts was diagnosed with a superficial blood clot in his calf. And according to a mix of reports from all of the insiders, Schefter, Rapaport, Pelicero, all these guys, Hurts was in the hospital before the game until four o'clock in the morning being monitored where doctors told him not to sleep as a precaution, was awake roughly 36 hours before going out and playing that game against the Jacksonville Jaguars and then played a game.
