You're watching TBPN.
**John Coogan** (0:02)
Today is Thursday, September 3rd, 2026 We are live from the TBPN. I'll turn down the temple of technology, the fortress of finance, the capital of capital. Let me tell you about ramp.com. Time is money, save both, easy to use corporate cards, bill pay, accounting, and a whole lot more all in one place. It's model mayhem, folks. It's model mayhem. We got tons and tons of new AI model releases. It's a great week to be into AI.
I think all the lab leaders, they got together. They said, you know what? People just love AI. Let's give them more. Even more. Let's all team up to launch new AI for them the same week so that everyone has something just to be happy about.
**Sridhar Ramaswamy** (0:43)
That's right.
**John Coogan** (0:44)
We got Anthropic, Fable 5.1. We got MuSpark 1.3. We got Gemini 3.8 Flash, OpenAI's T's and Astra. Is it GPT-6? There's a six where the S goes in one of the videos. People will figure it out. But the model mayhem is continuing. Everyone got back from their long summers, their vacations. They said, we got to launch something new. Time to ship.
**Jordy Leiser** (1:08)
We got to update this stuff.
**Jordi Hays** (1:09)
And Grok, Claude, and OpenAI were all down this morning. People thought Astra might have escaped.
**John Coogan** (1:18)
Kind of a deflock moment for AI maybe. What do you think is going on?
**Jordi Hays** (1:22)
Possibly.
**John Coogan** (1:23)
Do we actually understand why all of the different models went down at the same time? Because it's easy if it's like AWS went down and it took down a bunch of stuff.
**Jordi Hays** (1:32)
Yeah, it was East.
**Tyler** (1:33)
Yeah, but why is Gemini down?
**Sridhar Ramaswamy** (1:34)
I think it was US East one.
**John Coogan** (1:35)
Why is Gemini down then?
**Jordi Hays** (1:37)
No, no, Gemini wasn't down.
**John Coogan** (1:38)
Oh, Gemini was never down.
**Jordi Hays** (1:39)
That was the whole thing.
**John Coogan** (1:40)
Oh, okay, okay, okay. Yeah. That makes sense. So Amazon, clearly very critical to the global internet. Good luck to the folks over at Amazon that are fighting the good fight.
**Jordi Hays** (1:51)
Couple big announcements. One, it's Chamath's birthday.
**John Coogan** (1:55)
It is.
**Jordi Hays** (1:55)
Big 5-0.
**John Coogan** (1:56)
Should we sing full happy birthday?
**Jordi Hays** (1:58)
I think full happy birthday.
**John Coogan** (1:59)
Happy birthday to you.
**Jordi Hays** (2:03)
Happy birthday to you.
**John Coogan** (2:06)
Happy birthday dear Chamath.
**Jordy Leiser** (2:09)
Happy birthday to you.
**John Coogan** (2:12)
Fantastic.
All in conference. It's coming to Los Angeles, I believe. Couple weeks. Very excited. Sign up.
**Jordi Hays** (2:18)
Still waiting for our invites. Still waiting for our invites.
**John Coogan** (2:22)
I think we've been invited to pay and go if you want to go.
**Jordi Hays** (2:25)
Good to know. Equally important.
**John Coogan** (2:28)
Yes.
**Jordi Hays** (2:29)
TBPN's Road to Christmas. Road to Christmas.
**John Coogan** (2:31)
How many days have you got?
**Tyler** (2:32)
12 days out. 112 days out.
**Jordi Hays** (2:34)
112 days out. I gotta say, it's feeling like it's going a little slow.
**John Coogan** (2:39)
Yeah.
**Jordi Hays** (2:42)
I wish I was feeling more pace.
**John Coogan** (2:44)
Okay, think about it this way.
We're only 13 days away from double digits. That's a big moment. That's a moment everyone's going to be talking about on the road to Christmas.
**Jordi Hays** (2:52)
Yes.
**John Coogan** (2:53)
When we get to 99 days till Christmas, that's when you can start a countdown.
**Jordi Hays** (2:56)
That's big.
**John Coogan** (2:57)
If you get a really big Advent calendar, you can basically start that.
**Jordi Hays** (3:00)
Yeah.
**John Coogan** (3:01)
Typically, Advent calendar starts December 1st.
Why not? 99 days away.
**Jordi Hays** (3:06)
A Q4 Advent calendar would be pretty elite by TBPN. Little treats along the way, help you hit those KPIs.
**John Coogan** (3:13)
That could work.
Let me give you the round up on the model mayhem that's going on. First, let me tell you about CrowdStrike. Your business is AI. Their business is securing it. CrowdStrike secures AI and stops breaches. So Anthropic launched Claude Fable 5.1 alongside the restricted Claude Mythos 5.1. Google released Gemini 3.8 Flash and a cybersecurity focused version. That's good news. Meta released MuSpark 1.3. So it might not be that much of a surprise that Anthropic seems to have the strongest model of the three with Fable 5.1 scoring 66 on the artificial intelligence index.
That is the bar chart that everyone has been posting in this cycle. It feels like we're sort of maybe getting to the end of the benchmark era. It feels like when these models are released, it's much better to solve a novel math problem or do something else. The Pelican on the Bicycle is still one of my favorites. I love that one.
