Should we dive into our Coney a little bit? Yeah, I know.
Andrea Barber (0:21)
I'm like, what are we doing? Oh, we're doing a Coney recap.
Jodie Sweetin (0:23)
You're sick. I'm me. So who knows?
Andrea Barber (0:27)
Yeah, you know, Coney. I wrote an intro, but we don't need an intro. Let's just go.
Jodie Sweetin (0:33)
Yeah. Well, first to explain what the Coney is.
Andrea Barber (0:37)
Well, that's in my intro.
Jodie Sweetin (0:38)
Oh, well, then that's what I'm saying.
Let's pretend none of this happened. And we're starting and go.
Andrea Barber (0:45)
Okay, Tanneritos, Jodie and I spent the weekend in Detroit with our dear friends, Dave and Melissa Coulier.
And we have so much to catch you up on. We were there for the Coney, which is a benefit created by Mark Evan Jackson and the Children's Foundation of Michigan that raised an incredible $2.7 million for youth arts education in Detroit.
Jodie Sweetin (1:09)
Yeah.
Andrea Barber (1:09)
Amazing. And between hanging out with Dave and Mel and their sweet dogs, boating on the lake, meeting Amber Ruffin and having dinner with Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, it was a pretty unforgettable weekend.
Throw in a Full House skit with Andy Richter and a Coney hot dog making contest on stage. And we have so much to explain. So let's get into it.
Jodie Sweetin (1:32)
So much.
Andrea Barber (1:33)
Here we go.
Jodie Sweetin (1:34)
First of all, we will tell you what the origin of the Coney is. It is a Coney hot dog.
Yes, we know Coney Island is in New York. Here's the story. Italian, Greek immigrants from Coney Island, two brothers came. They were coming to the Midwest. They wound up in Detroit. They started a Coney hot dog business, bringing the taste of Coney Island to the immigrants that had moved sort of into the Midwest. Then something happened. There was a split, as there always is, with any good food. One goes off one way and one goes off the other. And they have slightly different, it's Lafayette.
Andrea Barber (2:16)
Lafayette and American are the two...
Jodie Sweetin (2:18)
Yeah, yeah, Lafayette and American, and those are the two breeds of Coney dogs.
Andrea Barber (2:22)
Yeah, and people are divided, like this is a dividing issue.
Jodie Sweetin (2:25)
People are hotly divided.
The Coney is what Detroit is known for. It's much like a cheesesteak in Philly, although it's named for something that's not actually in Detroit. But besides the point, the Coney, that's where it comes from. It's a Detroit thing. So because it was benefiting Detroit and a lot of the talent were from Detroit, they thought naming it something that was sort of ultimately Detroit would be the thing.
Andrea Barber (2:50)
I love it.
Jodie Sweetin (2:50)
Who doesn't love to do an event named after a hot dog?
Andrea Barber (2:53)
Right? I mean, this is, it was great. It was fantastic.
Jodie Sweetin (2:57)
So much fun.
Andrea Barber (2:58)
I thought of a tangent. I'm not gonna go on that tangent.
Jodie Sweetin (3:00)
No, no, do it, do it.
Andrea Barber (3:00)
No, no, cause it really has nothing to do. I was gonna say, my favorite hot dog is actually in Maine, where my in-laws, my ex-in-laws are from.
It's Woss's hot dog and it is so good. And I always wanted to bring, like create a franchise and bring it out here to the West Coast. Yeah, cause it's so good.
Jodie Sweetin (3:17)
Get your Woss's over here.
Andrea Barber (3:19)
Get your Woss's. Oh my gosh, see, I should make this happen. But anyways, speaking of Coney Island and then the hot dog movie to Detroit, that was just my, that's where my brain goes when it's on Dayquil.
Jodie Sweetin (3:29)
Hot dogs, okay.
Andrea Barber (3:30)
But let's stay in Detroit here. We stayed at Dave's and Melissa's house, which was- We did.
Jodie Sweetin (3:35)
It was our first time out there since they'd built it. And since Dave had been sick because it was, we didn't want to travel and bring stuff.
Andrea Barber (3:43)
Of course, of course. Yeah, he and Melissa have been there about two years. They built the house themselves.
And yeah, Dave built it, moved in and then got cancer twice. So like he's finally, this is finally like, hey, he's welcoming people into his home again.
Jodie Sweetin (3:56)
Yeah, yeah. And it was beautiful, right on the lake. Gorgeous.
Andrea Barber (4:01)
And so very Dave too, very modern.
Jodie Sweetin (4:03)
Yeah, very modern. But Dave is a super minimalist, super modern.
