The great dirty secret of dirty jobs, we probably featured 45 multi-millionaires on that show. You would have never known it because they were covered in shit or something worse.

You became famous showing America the jobs that we all depend on. Why did we stop respecting these jobs?

I think the fault has to do with our tendency to resent that which we rely upon. What about the fact that for every five tradespeople who retire, to replace them? I don't have to be an economist to tell you that. That's not sustainable.
There are seven million able-bodied men right now who are not only not working, they're not looking for work. That's never happened in our country, not in peacetime. Anyway, seven million men.

Then let me officially thank you for doing that. I know it's a pain in the ass to travel these days, especially in the San Francisco where half the runways are closed for no good reason.

Well, for me, this is big because I've been a huge fan of you and Dirty Jobs. I grew up watching Dirty Jobs and in fact, you inspired this, I kept it up briefly on my channel. It's called Undercover Millionaire. Well, what I did is I worked these jobs that you would have no idea made a whole bunch of money. Window washing, this kid made $1,000 a day. Car washing, this kid made $500 a day.
Dog walking and running a dog business, that was making $1,500 a day. So I found these jobs that were making a whole bunch of money, and then from doing that, people would reach out to me. Incredible businesses and you were the inspiration for that.

Well, wow. Thank you. That was a big part of the thesis of the show. That didn't get talked about enough. It was the underpinning of entrepreneurship. First and foremost, it was a TV show. It had to have some entertainment spectacle to it. So, it was always an exploding toilet or some misadventure, an animal husbandry or some crazy thing that would get you to watch. But if you really paid attention, as you obviously did over time, we did 350 of those things. And you would almost always find in every episode, not in every segment, but in every episode, you would find a buried love letter to entrepreneurship, and you would find a rumination on the dignity of work, and you would find humor that often exists on job sites, but doesn't get baked into a lot of popular portrayals of work. The great dirty secret of dirty jobs, which nobody really believes to this day, but you will because you watch for all these reasons.
We probably featured 40 to 45 multimillionaires on that show.
You would have never known it, because they were covered or something worse.

What's the job that made the most money that would shock people?

The answer will be one of the segments that was really about entrepreneurship. Again, it's the story nobody tells, but the business of mastering a trade and taking the reverse commute.
In other words, seeing where everybody else is going, and totally taking your passion and your dreams and setting them off to the side and saying, no, I'm going in the other direction. I'm going to find the opportunity. I'm going to get great at it.
