Dadiet's future in Jeopardy! Pacome Dadiet has been one of the worst first round picks in recent memory for New York. Honestly speaking, if he didn't agree to take Les as a rookie, New York probably wouldn't have drafted him. The only thing you can say about this kid is that he's young. You have to talk about his age. But he needs to do more than that if he wants to stay a part of this Knicks team. That's why Mike Brown is challenging him. He wants Dadiet to let it fly.
Shout out to Christian Winfield with the New York Daily News for giving us this following information. If Pacome Dadiet is going to earn minutes on a stack, Championship Knicks roster head coach Mike Brown said they'll come from his willingness to shoot the three ball. According to Mike Brown, the first one is obviously he shoots it so he can't be afraid to let it fly.
He's got to get his body set. Whatever, right away. And as soon as that thing hits his hands, if he has any space at all, at 6'7 or 6'8, whatever he is, boom, let it fly. Have confidence in that.
During preseason, Dadiet got the message. He has been letting it fly, although the numbers, they're pretty terrible. Pacome Dadiet is shooting 34.3% from the field, 12 of 35, and 35% from 3-point range, 7 of 20, over 3 preseason games for the Knicks. Let's face it, guys, Dadiet can't shoot. But Mike Brown, he praised something else that Dadiet does very well.
According to Mike Brown, Pacome Dadiet is one of the best cutters we have on the team. And so he's got to, at his size, he's got to cut the score. That gravity with his ability to shoot is going to get others open. Then the last thing I would say is he's a pretty good offensive rebounder. He's not a great athlete, but he's a good athlete, and he's got pretty good feet. I expect him to be versatile and not get beat off the dribble. Dadiet is behind Mikael Bridges, Josh Hart, Landry Shamett, Jordan Clarkson, and Miles McBride on the depth chart. He is 6'7, but does not play the 4, meaning he must compete for scarce minutes at the 2-3 spot. Dadiet said he took a more well-rounded approach to improving his game in the offseason. I'm still focusing on the stuff you focus on in the first 3 years. Making shots, playing defense, playing with a high motor, so conditioning and watching a lot of film with the coaches, especially defensively. Dadiet hasn't done much with the opportunities that have presented themselves over the first 2 years. That makes him a strong candidate for a trade by the February 11th NBA trade deadline. If you can't shoot and your best asset is cutting, that's not a very good combination. That's why the clock is ticking on Dadiet's future in New York. The clock is ticking on Dadiet's ability, at least in New York. The Knicks selected him in the first round in 2024 With the understanding, he was a development project, willing to take less than the rookie scale amount to leave France and help round out the Knicks top heavy roster. The project, however, has a due date, November 2nd, when the front office must decide whether or not to pick up or decline Dadiet's expensive 5.37 million year four team option. Remember, guys, Dadiet was the 25th overall pick in the 2024 NBA draft. He was billed as a proficient three-point shooter, with a leap positional size at 6'7, coming over from France. Yet, entering year three, the results have painted a different picture. 31.6% shooting from deep as a rookie under Tom Thibodeau, followed by a near 10% regression to 21.9% shooting in Brown's first year at the helm, for a grand total of 13 May threes on 51 attempts over 47 games through two seasons. Dadiet told the Daily News he's focused on becoming a better basketball player, not necessarily a pathway to earning a bigger role in Mike Brown's championship rotation. According to Dadiet, I feel like my path to minutes is just to keep working, keep talking to the guys, keep learning from the guys, and hopefully earn playing time with them.
