Welcome to the Off Menu podcast, taking a fistful of the three peanuts at Five Guys, cracking those little bastards open and gobbling on the podcast insides.
**James Acaster** (0:22)
There's four guys on this podcast though. Yeah. We have a guest.
**Ed Gamble** (0:27)
Yeah, we have a guest and Benito is here too.
**James Acaster** (0:29)
That is Ed Gamble. My name is James Acaster. Together, we own a Dream Restaurant. Every single week, we're inviting a guest. Ask them their favourite ever, start a main course, dessert, side dish and drink, not in that order. And this week, our guest is Mark Gatiss, the fourth guy. National Treasurer. Fourth guy in this podcast.
**Ed Gamble** (0:43)
Fourth guy in this podcast.
**James Acaster** (0:45)
He has been part of a group of four guys, of course.
**Ed Gamble** (0:47)
James, Ed, Benito, Mark Gatiss. National Treasurer, a part of Four Guys.
**James Acaster** (0:54)
League of Gentlemen, co-wrote and created Sherlock. Absolute classic.
**Ed Gamble** (0:59)
I mean, the man has achieved so much, James. A huge part of our comedy upbringing, you've got to say.
**James Acaster** (1:06)
Massive part.
**Ed Gamble** (1:07)
With The League.
**James Acaster** (1:08)
I mean, League of Gentlemen, me and my friends, basically, learnt their live at Drury Lane DVD, Off by Heart. We're quoting it all the time. Pretty much have spoken exclusively in quotes from that show. Went to see them on their next tour as well. Really formative experience. We watched the film at the Kettering Odeon, which has now been bulldozed.
We were a huge League of Gentlemen fans, and this is the second League of Gentlemen alumn we've had on.
**Ed Gamble** (1:33)
We've got to get Pembers on as well. We've got to complete that.
**James Acaster** (1:36)
What's, Dyson Chop Lever?
**Ed Gamble** (1:38)
No, the performing trio, I'm saying.
**James Acaster** (1:40)
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, we're never getting Dyson on. Dyson, we love you, but he's not going to want to come on this.
**Ed Gamble** (1:45)
Dyson didn't even play himself in the film.
**James Acaster** (1:47)
Yeah, yeah, so there's no way we're going to get Dyson. No.
**Ed Gamble** (1:51)
You know, my-
**James Acaster** (1:52)
Reverse psychology, if he's listening.
**Ed Gamble** (1:53)
Yeah.
**James Acaster** (1:55)
And of course, Mark is still knocking out the park with Bookish, which his second series is out on the 26th of August.
**Ed Gamble** (2:02)
On U&Alibi.
**James Acaster** (2:03)
A fantastic show, we're going to talk to Mark more about that. Yes. Rave reviews, Mark wrote and stars in it. We're going to hear more about that from Mark. And maybe that'll be all we hear from Mark, because if Mark picks the secret ingredient, we will have to kick Mark out. And this week.
**Ed Gamble** (2:19)
Doesn't feel like he's going to pick this one.
**James Acaster** (2:21)
If he does though, it's the first thing he's going to say and he'll be out. So it might be that we have time to talk about Bookish and that's it. This week, the secret ingredient is fluoride in water.
**Ed Gamble** (2:33)
As mentioned by Brian Cox, brackets actor, he made some claims about, this is our retraction of claims made on that episode about fluoride in water causing medical problems. We didn't know about the research. We just, you've got to nod along with Brian Cox.
**James Acaster** (2:52)
We weren't cosigning it.
**Ed Gamble** (2:53)
No, we weren't cosigning it, but we just sort of-
**James Acaster** (2:55)
We're not cosigning anything that man said in that episode.
**Ed Gamble** (2:57)
Fuck off.
**James Acaster** (2:58)
Fuck off. We cosigned that.
**Ed Gamble** (2:59)
Yeah. So it's on there, but that's not true. But if Mark picks fluoride in water, boy, oh boy, there will be a medical reaction to it then.
Medical reaction will be, you're at the Dream Restaurant and you die.
**James Acaster** (3:14)
Oh, hold on a second.
**Ed Gamble** (3:15)
That's what happens when we kick people out.
**James Acaster** (3:17)
I didn't know they died. Jade Adams dead.
**Ed Gamble** (3:18)
Well, it's because the Dream Restaurant hovers in space.
**James Acaster** (3:22)
Oh my God.
**Ed Gamble** (3:23)
So we actually, when we kick people out, they're dead.
**James Acaster** (3:25)
This is so much of a bigger deal than I didn't know they died. Yeah, they die. So if you get kicked out, you die.
**Ed Gamble** (3:30)
Yeah, yeah. Jade is dead. Jade is dead.
**James Acaster** (3:32)
Jade's dead. Yeah. I guess we never really reflected on that when it happened. But rest in peace to Jade Adams.
**Ed Gamble** (3:38)
Yeah.
