Now, let's move on to Four Thoughts on Sport to get us rolling this morning. And first thought, a massive fortnight ahead for the reigning Premier Brisbane. They face Sydney at the Gabba tomorrow night. They then square off against Geelong. Now we've been waiting for the Lions to get rolling all season. They have coughed, spluttered and stumbled their way through so far.
They currently sit bang in the middle of the firing line for the first ever wild card round in eighth spot. Four points adrift of sixth place Melbourne. If they're going to move, it's time to move now. Second thought, Justin Longmuir says the elimination final lost to Gold Coast has not occupied his team's thoughts in the lead up to Sunday's clash at Optus Stadium. Now I know that Justin is process over emotion and it served his club very well so far on this 13 match winning streak. But I will be surprised if it doesn't get a bit of a run this week. The Dockers had a bit of the gloss scraped off their year last year in the one point lost to the Suns in a home elimination final. To put it simply, they own one. Third thought is on Zach Butters, who is making no public pronouncements on his future before the end of the season. And what that almost certainly means is that he is leaving. Forget what Butters is going to do. The thing that tells the story here is what he hasn't done. And what he hasn't done is re-sign with Port. And that's fair enough for Zach. He's given a lot to the club, he's entitled to leave, and he's certainly not short changing them on the field this year. But sometimes what players don't do when they're coming out of contract tells all people need to know about what they're about to do.
And finally, final thought, West Coast will not be that far off full strength when they take on Carleton in Melbourne this weekend, minus Reuben Jinby, but not many others. Now, the Blues are on a roll under Josh Frazer, five wins on the trot. But for the Eagles, what a golden opportunity to have an influence on the season and grab some relevance back. They can affect the outcome of other clubs.
The Blues are fighting to get back into wildcard contention. The Eagles are seeking relevance and the opportunity to take some of it right here sits right in front of them this weekend. 487 736 736 That is the text line.
