Let's get on to Four Thoughts now on Sport, to get us rolling this morning. Thought one, still on the Brownlow.
North Melbourne youngster Harry Schiezel polled 27 votes. That is the most for the club since Ross Glendinning won in 1983
Just keep an eye on him in future Brownlow counts, especially if North climb further up the ladder. Now, I know Schiezel's a nice player, but clearly the umpires like him. They picked up on his form and they ran with him. Second thought, Fremantle's Bailey Banfield, who won the Jim Stines Community Award for his work with Fremantle's Purple Hands Foundation, and also the Starlight Foundation for Seriously Ill Children. When Banfield was rookie listed by the Dockers, he was introduced as a bloke who, if he wasn't playing the game, was so smart, he would probably be running the game. He spoke like such a man last night. It was a wonderful speech, and Bailey is a seriously impressive young man from a seriously good family. I'm not sure how much AFL footy he has left after slipping out of the Dockers senior team this year, but he's eeked out a very good AFL career, and I suspect he's going to have a great career doing whatever he chooses to do ahead of him. Third thought on Lockie Neal as the debate raged over whether he should be excused for his gut punch on Jack Ginevan. This is pretty clear cut, isn't it? Greg Swann said the AFL would be cracking down on gut punches with the words, give them a week. Everyone who has done it since, with a couple of questionable exceptions, has got a week. So why not Neal too?
Let's see them try and argue exceptional and compelling circumstances for an off the ball hit on an unsuspecting opponent. That'll be a spectacle within itself. And fourth thought is on Cricket and Josh Inglis's timely 100, which got Australia the win in their third one day international against Zimbabwe in Harare. It was timely for Inglis as he tries to cement himself in the Australian ODI line up ahead of bigger games ahead. And timely for the Aussies too, who needed every one of Inglis's runs to chase down Zimbabwe's 272 with one wicket and one ball to spare. Give us your thoughts and questions 487 736 736 That is the text line. And 1312 55 is the Bower and O'Day open line. Bower and O'Day, because the little things are everything. After the break, we'll be talking to the Guardians, Jonathan Horne, Made in WA, Four WA. This is Mornings with Mark Duffield on SCNWA.
