Let's move on to Four Thoughts on Sport to get us rolling this morning. Thought one is on the 10 frightening minutes at the MCG yesterday when Billy Frampton's tackle on Brody Mychek pitched him head first into the turf, requiring a neck brace and a stretcher.
We are hearing that Mychek is OK. There is no detailed update on his condition yet, and he did go to hospital. This is a brutal reminder that the game is very tough.
It also prompts an awkward question. Tough as it is to ask, does the injury to Mychek mean that Frampton, minus any malevolent intent, should still face action for a dangerous tackle? Thought two is on the quadricep injury suffered by Ruben Jinby.
He looks like he has dodged the need for surgery. Andrew McWalter on Channel 7 last night, not ruling him out playing again this season.
But you have to say, this looks like a big soft tissue injury, and it's going to require a rethink of West Coast tall defensive stocks with Harry Edwards still in concussion protocols. The Eagles should at least be open to Job Shanahan playing in defence. Third thought is on what might become the major reason Sean Darcy replacing Mason Cox as Luke Jackson's backup. So Darcy, as a specialist ruck, will be capable of spending more time on the ball than Cox, who has always been a forward ruck. It would mean that Justin Longmuir can better manage the workloads of Luke Jackson in the run into finals. Jackson rates alongside Josh Tracy as Freemantle's most important player. And finally, Fourth Thought is on Collingwood's list management, which shapes as one of the most intriguing watchers at the end of this season. The Pys, who are already considered old, have interest in Lockie Neal, who would be 34 at the start of the 2027 season. They also, it must be said, have interest in younger stars like Gold Coast pair Jed Walter and Ben King, both of whom the Suns are fighting to keep.
