Ian, good morning. Good morning, good morning.
Eric Larsen (0:16)
Holy shit, you're wearing a Navy hoodie. You've been working with us for three years now, and now you're looking like me.
I got to see a picture of what you use. I got to switch my whole outfit and look and everything like this.
Ian (0:29)
This is an abomination. I would change, but I'm too lazy, and I will only say my hoodie is handsomer than yours, so it's okay. No, it's just more expensive.
Eric Larsen (0:37)
It's not handsomer. It has a full-length zipper, it's cashmere. Actually, mine's like a, mine actually, I think says TowerBrook on the back of the hoodie.
Ian (0:46)
Yours is definitely swag. Yours is a gift from somebody. Yeah. It's a gift from us. It's a gift from us. Yeah, there you go.
Eric Larsen (0:51)
Did we give you one?
Ian (0:53)
No, and I'm just making a mental note of that. So, all right, to the topic, which is really a delightful one. I mean, look, Incumbents and Insurgents, you and I doing this together has been such a joy.
One of the many things that you and I share is this just insatiable love of learning. One of the things that's been just so amazing and joyful about this process is getting to learn from you, from Tom Mihaljevic, from Dario Amadei, from Alex Carr, from Gene Woods, from Brett Taylor, like from Vinod Kozla, getting to learn and really dialogue with the protagonists on both sides of the play, in AI and in establishment healthcare.
You and I took this particular podcast in a very different direction. We're so privileged to have our dear friend and colleague, Marc Harrison, as an ally to us, as a colleague to us, as chair of the TowerBrook Health Healthcare Institute. And so, Marc and I did, as our readership and viewership and listenership will experience in a few minutes, a few mercifully short minutes if I stop the monologue, they're going to get to learn from Marc Harrison. And Marc's bio speaks for itself, and I'll invite you to elaborate on it because I've known Marc for 20 years, you know Marc for 20 years. But I'll give you the microphone to talk through his biography. I'll just simply say, he's one of the most single accomplished executives in our industry. But he's also had this real intuition about leading from the vanguard, right? So he opened the Cleveland Clinic Hospital in Abu Dhabi, and then he led one of the preeminent systems in Intermountain. But then he was at the forefront of venture capital in the Health Insurance Transformation Company and the acquisition of SUMA. Now he's at the forefront of what we are collectively doing in private equity and private investments and at the forefront of what we're seeking to do in converging these sort of worlds of AI and health care. But let me stop there. I know you love and respect Marc as much as I do.
Eric Larsen (3:24)
Yeah. I mean, look, I thank you for even mentioning my name with others that you have, but I think all of us have an opportunity to learn from you. And I think it's really important to make sure, I think for those that choose to listen to this introduction, let alone to the our pods that we have the opportunity to put together, there's so much just to learn from your intentional wandering and networking. It's incredibly unique, and your ability to distill and force so many more people to the frontier of learning, I think is critical. So that's number one. Two, I don't want to spend time actually, you talk about in the pod Marc's bio, you just gave a bunch of his bio. I don't think it does service even to the introduction to just review the bio again. So I'd love to not do that. But I think for Marc, our relationship just started with an introduction to someone I knew longer than Marc, which is Bert Zimmerle, the former CFO there at Intermountain.
I met Zimmerle, I forget how I met Zimmerle, might have been through Steven Neelman that was the founder of Health Equity that I had the opportunity to work with, that was based in Salt Lake. But when I met Marc, the conversation was always about purpose in life. Look, it was always hard to even get a couple minutes with Marc. I mean, he was the CEO of Intermountain, busy guy, lots of stuff to do, second largest employer in the state of Utah, innovative system, having their own payer as well, and truly being integrated and truly being a system. But the conversation always went deeper because we would always sit and talk about, and he would say to me, where do you think is the best seat to have the greatest impact in healthcare? A lot of times, it was even greater than healthcare, just the greatest impact. I think once you take a step back and you get to know Marc, and you try to pull a thread through a lot of points you make in the podcast, is the way I summarize this, is this guy has seen the light. I don't necessarily mean the light of enlightenment that we often think, but he has contemplated death on three separate occasions even currently today.
