If you want to get access to this episode and my next 30 episodes all ad free, so there'll be no ads on them, go check out my podcast AI Chat. You can go search for that on Spotify or Apple. It's AI Chat. I'm going to post all of these news episodes, and I'm also posting interviews, like I just interviewed the CEO of Cohere. They've raised over a billion dollars for their AI model, talking about what they're going to be spending the money on and the direction of the AI industry, along with all of this new stuff. So if you want to go check it out with no ads for free, it is AI Chat. Welcome to the podcast. They were talking about more features announced at OpenAI's Dev Day, specifically the way that it feels like ChatGPT is trying to become the app store for AI and the way that you interface with all of the software you use today. So they've made some really big announcements. They're also apparently looking at doing a $30 billion round of funding. Shocker, looks like the IPO is, I mean, who needs an IPO when you can just raise 30 billion in a round of funding wherever you want more money.
And also, there's a bunch of other features that they have been announcing with Codex, et cetera. We're going to get into all of that before we do. If you haven't left a review on this podcast already, could you take two seconds to go scroll down to the about section on Spotify, drop some stars, or if you're on an Apple podcast, if you could leave a little review on there, letting us know what you appreciate about the show. It helps to show out immensely to be found by more people. So that would be a huge help. And as always, if you want to grow and scale your business with AI, make sure to go check out the school community. We just recorded an entire bonus episode breaking down the top ways we think you could make the most money as an AI consultant. So that's all there on the AI hustle school community. Okay, let's get into this idea with the ChatGPT app store. And I guess, Jamie, do you want to just give a little bit of an overview of kind of what was announced and I guess what you think is most useful about this?
Jamie (1:54)
Yeah, so they're not really actually releasing their own app store. I think that's a little bit of misinformation. But up to this point, we've had, you can install different plugins for ChatGPT. For example, Canva, you can have connect with ChatGPT and it will actually generate images within Canva and create a project for you and interact with the app. So that's pretty cool. But this is kind of like the next level of that, which is basically being able to work within ChatGPT using the app, but never having to actually leave. It's kind of, I don't know, to me it doesn't, I'm trying to figure out how it's different from like an MCP server.
And Jaeden, I think maybe you have a better grasp on this, but basically, what's the difference between MCP plugin to, let's say, an app like Slack, compared to just being able to connect directly with ChatGPT?
Jaeden (2:52)
You have a great point, and I think a lot of people feel the same way, because the more ChatGPT is like, we're making the app store, you can connect with all the apps, and everyone's like, well, weren't we sort of already able to do that in one way or another? Or even in a sense that like every software now has an API to ChatGPT and plugs it in to their data, so even when you're on a different software website, like you can ask it questions or to edit stuff or to do things on the website, and it's using ChatGPT, so sometimes it does get a little bit confusing the way everything's mixed together. But OpenAI, I think right now, really is trying to take a stab at becoming more of the hub where you use the internet, and so you could call it an app store for that, but it might not even maybe call it a chat store, I don't know. But the way that you use tools today is changing, and it's interesting because if you're someone that has been using this stuff for a while, you know that you can go and use all of these different tools with an MCP inside of ChatGPT Cowork or ChatGP Work or Cloud Cowork. And so there definitely is there, it feels less useful or less unique in that sense, but there is a huge chunk of people that are just using ChatGPT on their phone or just using it on the desktop, like in their browser, and they don't have all of those agent capabilities. They don't have, you know, the subscription, the $100 or the $200 subscription tier that lets it, you know, click through everything on your computer screen. And so I think that some of these integrations are making it more useful for that. As far as the app store goes and their plugins, you know, doing plugins for years since I think ChatGPT 4 came out. I remember when they announced the plugin store, they're making a lot of improvements on how plugins are actually ranked, how the recommendations are going in their directory. So it feels like they're trying to take it a little bit more seriously because it was definitely the wild west before and it was in no particular order. There was just a hundred integrations on there.
