Lakers and Kings Pursuing Mitch. The Knicks Free Agency Plans all start with Mitchell Robinson, but the Knicks have competition in doing that. The Lakers and the Kings are interested in stealing Robinson away from the Knicks. Take a look at these recent updates. According to them, SNY's Ian Bagley reported on Tuesday that Robinson is expected to generate significant interest across the NBA, including from teams that could offer him a larger role on top of just more money. According to Bagley, I heard earlier in the postseason that there were numerous suitors, and there was at least one team back then that was prepared to offer Mitchell Robinson a starting spot. To me, that's significant, because he knows he's not starting in New York as long as Carl Anthony Towns is here. So if that's a factor for him, that's something I'm keeping an eye on. Shortly after making those comments, Bagley pointed to the Sacramento Kings as a logical landing spot. According to Bagley, I don't have specific information. I mean, I have heard the same whispers about the Lakers, but just based on their need at center and their situation financially, Sacramento, if they didn't have a player at the position that they loved, I think they'd be all over Mitchell Robinson. They're always a team I link to Robinson.
And if you're wondering why Ian Bagley continues to link Mitchell Robinson to the Kings, that's a very simple question to answer. It's because of the Kings GM, Scott Perry. The Kings have had their eyes on Mitchell Robinson for a while, and that really has to do with their general manager. According to posting and toasting, Sacramento's number one asset in convincing Robinson to both out of Manhattan might be their general manager, Scott Perry, who originally drafted Robinson in 2018 while still with the Knicks, and is a strong supporter of the country boy.
This is what Steph Bondi reported to everyone back in May. Sources around the league have pegged the Sacramento Kings as a threat to pry Robinson away in free agency.
Scott Perry, the GM of the Kings, has long been a fan of Robinson after drafting him in the 2018 second round as a member of New York's front office. The Kings, they're definitely competition for New York, but it doesn't stop there. As I mentioned earlier, the Lakers, they're on that list too. They're pursuing Mitchell Robinson, especially after missing out on one of their free-agent targets already this off season. Let's take a look at those updates. The Lakers are in the market for a center. As noted Tuesday, the Lakers were among a group of teams to contact the New Orleans Pelicans about potential Yves Missy trades. New Orleans obviously didn't like LA's offers ahead of the draft. If the Lakers miss out on targets like Missy, Logic says they will be interested in Mitchell Robinson when he hits free agency. If Robinson leaves The Knicks, they would either need to convince a veteran free agent to take less money in signing with them. Or they would need to acquire a center via the trade market. It would be one thing if only one NBA insider confirmed that the Lakers and the Kings were pursuing Mitchell Robinson. But that's not the case at all. Multiple NBA insiders have already confirmed that the Lakers and the Kings are two teams that Knicks need to be careful of. Shout out to James L.
