MacroVoices #554 Yasir Arafat: Mass Manufacturing Nuclear Power Plants
Macro Voices
October 15, 2026
MacroVoices Erik Townsend & Patrick Ceresna welcome Yasir Arafat. They discuss Aalo Atomics’ plan to mass-produce small nuclear reactors, initially for AI data centers, and the scale of the power demand the company hopes to serve.

It's not a matter of whether or not we want to transition to nuclear. It's a matter of when, because if you compare those same numbers with oil and gas, oil and gas will only last us 50 more years worldwide to run civilization.
Erik Townsend (0:16)
That was Alo Atomics co-founder and CTO, Yasir Arafat. I'm Erik Townsend, and this is Macro Voices, the free weekly podcast targeting professional finance and sophisticated private investors. Episode 554 was produced on October 15th, 2026
This week, I'm pleased to introduce you to Yasir Arafat, co-founder and chief technology officer of Alo Atomics. You heard Yasir's partner and Alo CEO Matt Lozak introduce Alo's plan to mass produce not just nuclear reactors, but entire nuclear power plants in Macro Voices episode 522, which aired on March 5th, 2026
This week, we're going to move beyond Alo's immediate plans to deliver behind-the-meter nuclear energy for data centers and talk about what it's really going to take, not just for Alo, but for the entire US advanced nuclear industry to scale nuclear energy using advanced technology up while bringing the cost of nuclear energy down to the point that it eventually costs less than coal and gas. And I'll tell you upfront, Yasir really surprised me in this interview. I thought he was going to say it takes at least 15 years to get to that point where we can make nuclear energy cost less than coal and gas because I say that's where the demand absolutely explodes and we see a change in the course of human history. Yasir thinks it comes much earlier than I was thinking. So I think you're really going to enjoy this interview, folks. I let it run a little bit longer than usual, but I think you'll find it's worth it.
Patrick Ceresna (1:53)
And I'm Patrick Ceresna. Let's dive straight into this interview.
Erik Townsend (1:57)
In the interest of full disclosure, I want to acknowledge that I am an early investor in Yasir's company, Alo Atomics. In fact, it's the biggest private equity position I've ever held. So I clearly have a vested interest in the company's success, and I want to be transparent with our listeners about that interest. Nothing in this interview is investment advice. Yasir, it's great to have you on the program. I'm really looking forward to this one. Our long-time listeners have already heard your partner, Matt Lozak, explain Alo's plan to offer behind-the-meter nuclear power for AI data centers. So today, I want to focus on the longer term, what happens next, and how we really scale nuclear energy up to a whole new level. But for anybody who didn't catch that interview with Matt, let's just start with a quick refresher. What business is Alo in today, and what are your current plans?
Yasir Arafat (2:49)
Thank you, Erik, for having me on and interviewing Matt, and also bringing the Alo story to light, and your continued support in supporting Alo.
So for those of the audience who are not familiar or need a refresher, Alo is building mass-manufactured nuclear reactors. Now, when we do this, our first market we are targeting is AI data centers, because they're the ones who need energy most urgently than anyone else.
Once we deploy there and essentially come down the cost curve, that unlocks other markets for us, right? It's very similar to how Bezos, when he started Amazon, he started with books initially. And then later, he came up with the Everything Store, right? So just like books for Amazon, data centers are sort of our books, right? We start up with data centers, but then when we come down the cost curve, every other country who is importing energy to keep their lights on, our communities who are struggling with energy, all of that opens up for us.
Erik Townsend (3:56)
Thanks, Yasir.
Listeners, in case you missed it, I strongly recommend listening to Alo CEO Matt Lozak's interview back on Macro Voices episode 522, which aired on March 5th, 2026
Yasir, the nuclear industry has been around for 75 years, and we still have less than 450 power reactors operating worldwide. That's about six units a year of established long run demand. And frankly, that's hardly enough to justify any kind of grown up conversation about mass producing anything. Yet, you're already building a factory right now in Texas to mass produce 100 nuclear reactors per year on an assembly line. Now, this is not my personal view, but I know a lot of investors are going to be very skeptical and maybe even think you're crazy, because they're going to say, look, there's obviously not enough volume to justify assembly line production of nuclear reactors, which historically take a decade to build and cost tens of billions of dollars per project. So, how would you answer investors' objections if they think you've frankly lost your mind proposing to mass produce something that the whole industry only built 450 of in 75 years?
