Rode along here, Live Bet Saturday, College Football Week 7 I'm Dustin Swedelson. He's Will Hill, Early Window. We're in the second quarter of a lot of these affairs. We'll get you set as we move towards half time, look for in-game betting opportunities along the way. But we also have to preview some big games coming up later today. And there's a massive one in the Big 12 down in Houston, Texas. Oklahoma State goes to the Cougars of Houston, where this one's down to four. Houston laying it. Total is 62 and a half. To help us break it down, let's go out to the Progressive Guest Line. Welcome in Robert Allen. pokesreport.com is where you can find his write-ups here. Covering Oklahoma State at R. Allen Go Pokes on X, and he joins us now via the Progressive Guest Line. Before we get into this match up today, where there's massive Big 12 implications, talk to us, Robert. It's been a bit of a roller coaster of emotions. First year of Eric Morris and Drew Mestemaker coming down to Stillwater. What has it been like watching this team through the first few weeks of the season?
Robert Allen (1:51)
Well, considering the last two years and the fact Oklahoma State not won a conference game in the Big 12, and again, I worked on the radio network with Mike Gundy for 20 years. The guy's a tech of a coach. Things fell apart with the portal and NIL and the adjustment at Oklahoma State was behind the curve a little bit. But no, it's been amazing. Now, the first game scared the heck out of everybody. You go to Tulsa, you get beat by two touchdowns, the TU.
I think everybody was licking their wounds after that and wondering how long was this going to take? But Eric Morris and Mesta Maker and company, I give that defense some credit to come back and beat Oregon. They're on a four game run and they come into Houston with, I think, a pretty good solid football team. They're playing pretty well just about every area.
Will Hill (2:44)
Robert, where would you put Mesta Maker on the hierarchy in terms of quarterbacks? He's a little off the radar at Oklahoma State where you have Arch Manning is Arch and his last name is Manning.
Carr plays for Notre Dame, Mensa plays for Miami team that was in the College Football final last year. Is Mesta Maker the best of your opinion somewhere in the middle? What do you think he'll translate to at the next level?
Robert Allen (3:03)
No, I thought Mesta Maker was going to be really good and I go all the way back guys to Pro Day.
Pro Day last spring, there was not an incumbent quarterback. There was not an older quarterback showing off for the pros.
So for the receivers that were going through Pro Day, they pulled Mesta Maker out there to throw in front of the scouts. Now, he's doing all these different route trees because the scouts want to see the receivers doing everything that you can do as a receiver. And he is zipping the heck out of the ball. So I walked away from Pro Day before he ever suited up for a practice thinking, okay, this cat can, he can do things. Plus Brandon Whedon, the former quarterback at Oklahoma State is a good friend of mine. And Brandon had about as good a velocity as anybody I've ever been around. And he watched Mesta Maker and he said, Robert, this cat is going to be in the NFL someday. He has got it. So I think we knew about Mesta Maker early, but I think the rest of the country is finding out right now. He's a really good quarterback in a lot of ways, not just physically. He can run the ball a little bit too. I don't think he's a dual threat, but guys, his mind is so good. He progresses, goes through the play so well and finds the right guy to throw to.
