Welcome back to the SENWA studio. We're out here at Optus Stadium on this sunny Wednesday morning in Perth.
And the Dockers AFLW girls went over to Icon Park last weekend and got it done against Richmond. It was their second win of the season. Brings them to 2-2 over the course of the season. Their coach Lisa Webb joins us on the show now. Lisa, welcome.
Lisa Webb (1:19)
Thanks for having me.
Mark Duffield (1:20)
So it was a good win. What were your thoughts on the game?
Lisa Webb (1:25)
Yeah, obviously, we knew they were always going to be a challenging team. We played them in pre-season and they certainly got the better of us. And under a new look coach, I thought they were playing some really good footy. So we knew we had to obviously bring a better performance as well. I feel every week we've been building.
But yeah, it was pleasing. I think once again, we're able to set up the game, you know, for the majority of the game is the way we want it. And then obviously fell away a little bit at the end. So some of the stuff we've been building on really, yeah, showed in that game. And then once again, we've got a few things we've got to get to work on as well.
Mark Duffield (1:58)
So that was kind of a theme from the game against Collingwood, also in Melbourne at Victoria Park, wasn't it? You set the game up, got the game under control and then kind of didn't put the finishing touches on it late. Any thoughts on what the reasons for that are?
Lisa Webb (2:13)
Yeah, we certainly went away from a bit of the way we were playing in the first three, especially around our structure. I know we were throwing a few challenges obviously with Mim going down, but I think we handled that really well. And there were just key moments in the game where I think, you know, as Mim's ruck obviously, I think 78 games straight for us. So she knows exactly where to go. And we've got a bit obviously that we're working through as to who our second ruck is and playing that role consistently requires obviously a bit of work in there as well. So really stoked with obviously the way that Eden and Bella were able to adapt, especially in game.
But I think that continuity of having a ruck in there that, you know, can perform at the role and then obviously have some of our mids and smalls at the feet of our long down alarmers in area, which came up a bit in the last. So I still think we had plenty of opportunity in the last to, you know, consolidate a bit of that skill execution, you know, mucked it up a little bit. But yeah, we take a lot of learning from that. Obviously we're a work in progress, but for three quarters, I felt we got it right. And in the last, we certainly reviewed that yesterday.
Mark Duffield (3:21)
Mim Strom, of course, you're talking about went down with a shoulder concern. What's the news on her? Do you have any update?
Lisa Webb (3:27)
Yeah, she's definitely a tester this week, which is really great. Obviously she's a very important player for us. And she's been, you know, a warrior for such a long time and, you know, finds a way to keep grinding through. So it was obviously disappointing for her to go down, but, you know, seeing her face on the bench at half time and how great she was with, you know, writing notes for the other girls and providing support. And then, yeah, I think it's just one of those things we'll test. Obviously we're not going to risk her, but I think she's in a pretty good spot. And it's great that we're in a position to be able to test her and she won't be out for a while, that's for sure.
