Marc Fellhauer (0:01)

Celebrating 10 years is a podcast. It's The Drew Lane Show.

Brandon McAfee (0:06)

He's got one of the biggest audiences in the history of the world.

Eli Zaret (0:08)

I mean, this guy is unbelievable.

Drew Lane (0:13)

So, just start, just start.

Brandon McAfee (0:15)

We had it later, I thought.

Marc Fellhauer (0:16)

I think we are starting.

Trudi Daniels (0:17)

Ben's starting. I think we are. Oh, we are, okay.

Drew Lane (0:18)

Hey, hey, everybody.

Marc Fellhauer (0:20)

You were so excited about stopping that two-point conversion.

Eli Zaret (0:23)

Oh, man.

Drew Lane (0:24)

The Lions win.

Roberto (0:25)

Yeah, just like they rolled it up.

Eli Zaret (0:27)

We never worried for one second.

Drew Lane (0:30)

Everybody was so cut. No, I'm kidding. I was certain New Orleans was going to get that two-point conversion because I don't know why, but the Lions felt like they were lulled to sleep today. They do pull it out, though. 31 to 30

Whoo, that could have been a disaster.

Eli Zaret (0:46)

Yes, it could have easily been a disaster. But they scored on their last, they let the Saints score in their last five possessions. It was 21-0 late in the third quarter. This game was over. I'm upstairs shooting the shit with you thinking, I don't even have to watch anymore. It was 21-0. Come down here and it's just a very, very exciting game.

Lions have a lot of new faces, and a lot of them were beaten in the defensive backfield. Without Kirby Joseph, without Brian Branch, they got just a bunch of guys we didn't even know were on the team. Roger McCreary, Chuck Clark. You got the rookie Keith Abney in there at the end. It's, but he did win, and it was a remarkably exciting game.

Kind of like last night, I don't want to change the subject, but last night's Texas-Ohio State game. I'm thinking I should shut that off too. And look what happened there.

Drew Lane (1:41)

That game reminds me, because it seemed like Ohio State got lulled to sleep in that game.

Marc Fellhauer (1:45)

Yeah, played conservative.

Drew Lane (1:47)

Yeah, they got a little sloppy. But yeah, the Lions, 21-0, with five minutes left in the third quarter. This doesn't, does this feel like Dan Campbell's coaching this team?

I mean, today?

Marc Fellhauer (1:58)

No, because they had won fourth and two, where they went out there to try and draw them offside.

Drew Lane (2:03)

Crip.

Trudi Daniels (2:04)

Instead of just going for it.

Drew Lane (2:05)

I thought they would go for that. I mean, it's the first game of the year, you want to set the tone a little bit. They were going for it as many times as they did last year. With that offensive line, I thought if the line's really better, they'd go back to being the old crazy Dan Campbell.

Trudi Daniels (2:18)

Let's go!

Eli Zaret (2:19)

It's just the defense, I don't know if it broke down, or if New Orleans and this Kellan Moore, who used to play for the Lions quarterback, he's the coach there now, just the quarterback Tyler Schuck.

Brandon McAfee (2:35)

Who is he?

Eli Zaret (2:36)

He was terrible in the first half. He had no time. The Lions are picking them off.

They're defending them. Their new cornerbacks are playing beautifully. The new safeties are playing great. They're intercepting. Chuck Clark intercepted a pass. We didn't even know he was even on the team. They got five or six of these one-year borrowed free agents who are all playing very, very well. And then things just started to fall apart. They're down there at the one-yard line, ready to put this game away. Larry Borum, a new lineman, holds. They go back to the 11-yard line. They don't score.

Drew Lane (3:08)

Well, we looked like we wanted a field goal. We ran the ball twice up the middle, and then we threw it out to Amin Ra, who got to the five-yard line, and was like, oh, great, we can get a field goal. This just doesn't feel like, I mean, I know it's not Ben Johnson's offense. It hasn't been for over a year, but it just doesn't.

Marc Fellhauer (3:23)

That's what hurts, too, seeing that the Bears score 59

Trudi Daniels (3:25)

Oh, they went off today. 59

Drew Lane (3:29)

Boy. See, that's what the Lions were doing.

Eli Zaret (3:31)

They moved the ball well. Listen, the first half, they only had one touchdown in the first half, but they moved the ball pretty well. Jameer Gibbs had a great game. He had 156 yards rushing at one point near the end, looking as good as ever.
