Mike Dawson (1:10)

From Carolla One Studios in Glendale, California, this is The Adam Carolla Show. Adam's guest today, political commentator and author Lindy Li.

Plus the news with me Mike Dawson and now, Adam Carolla.

Adam Carolla (1:24)

Yeah, get it on, got to get it on, no choice but to get it on, man, they get it on. Thanks for tuning in, thanks to my friend, love that about you, Lindy Li.

But it's LI., right? Last name?

Lindy Li (1:37)

Yeah, it is, Lindy Li.

Adam Carolla (1:39)

She is an author, she's a political commentator. The book Unburdened, a former Democrat insider, shocking account of political power, betrayal and party collapse.

She's joined me via Zoom. Good to see you, Lindy.

Lindy Li (1:56)

So good to see you. So proud of everything you've done, especially recently.

Adam Carolla (2:04)

Well, thank you. So questions for you. Well, why don't we just get your background first so we can just set the table where you come from. I know born in China, came here at age five, I believe, settled on the East Coast. Then what?

Lindy Li (2:21)

I actually spent my earliest years in England, not China. Oh, yeah.

Adam Carolla (2:26)

Oh, okay.

Lindy Li (2:27)

I was born in China, but my family moved to England promptly. My dad went to the University of Leeds. So I'm actually from Sheffield, England.

People are surprised to know that. But of course, the leftists removed that from my Wikipedia so people don't know about it.

Adam Carolla (2:40)

Well, see, it's interesting because, you know, when I just read the bio and I say, born in China, immigrated to the United States with a family at age five, it doesn't imply moved to England, but that's where my confusion. So you go from China to England, to the United States.

Lindy Li (3:00)

Yeah, my dad was a very anti-communist, and it's due to he persecuted his family and he wasn't able to get an education in China.

Adam Carolla (3:10)

Yeah, so.

Lindy Li (3:11)

Thank God we left.

Adam Carolla (3:12)

You come to the United States at five, then what?

Lindy Li (3:17)

It was the beginning of the most, honestly, the most beautiful and meaningful journey because I sincerely believe that being American is the best thing that's ever happened to me. I wake up every day just giving thanks to be here. I mean, but by the grace of God, truly, it's just I'm very outspoken. So I feel like I would have been thrown into prison in China like years ago.

And the fact that I'm here and living in our beloved country is just such a tremendous blessing. But yeah, I've been in Pennsylvania nearly all my life. I'm still here. It's very hard for me to leave. A lot of people want me to move down to Miami, but I just can't. It's very hard. We'll see.

Adam Carolla (3:55)

Well, you say you're very outspoken. So if you're in China, then you'd be thrown in a gulag, but maybe you wouldn't be outspoken if you were in China because of that threat.

Lindy Li (4:10)

Well, I probably would have been dead at the first instance.

It's my nature to be rebellious and to say what I think is true. I cannot be controlled. And I mean, my parents have been dealing with me on a domestic level. They very much know that I am my own person. And I don't take orders from anybody.

Adam Carolla (4:29)

You had a...

But you used to be Democratic and you were even part of the, I think, you know, maybe had a cup of coffee with the Democratic Socialists and that kind of stuff. Is that no?
