Figured I should start with a trip report from my surgery. For anyone who missed it, the TLDR is basically, in the spring I found out I had thyroid cancer through preventative screening. If you're interested in more details around that, go back to episode 997 I believe we put that out around July 15th.
Anyway, can't thank everyone enough for all the messages and love that you sent. Truly was overwhelming. Like, apparently Boomer Esiason was talking about me on WFAN. Like, the doctors at the hospital heard the podcast. My wife's friends. And then obviously, you know, all of you listeners, so I consider friends as well. Just crazy stuff. But it feels like I owe you an update on what's happened since I recorded that pod. I recorded that pod a few days before the surgery. So trip report from the surgery.
I show up to the hospital for the day of the surgery. I really wasn't nervous at all. You know, I've been under anesthesia before. I know how incredible anesthesia is.
I know there's no pain involved. You know, like you're out. They could literally do anything to you and you won't feel it. So, I'm not nervous. I'm sitting there in the waiting, in the prep area. They put the IV in. I put on the gown, anesthesiologist comes in. He's asking me a ton of questions. One of the questions he asked me was, have you done any drugs in the last six months? And I know, you know, I'm supposed to say no, but I felt like it was a spot I needed to tell the truth. So I say, yeah, I've done drugs in the last six months. And he says, okay, what have you done?
And so I pause and I say, wow, how much time do you have, brother? And you know, so he's laughing. So I say, I've been smoking weed, you know, I've been doing some mushrooms, a little bit of acid, some MDMA. You know, I just keep going on and on. And the guy is like, oh, you know, okay, cool. But no heroin or hard drugs this week, right? I mean, my wife is sitting there next to my bed, just stone cold, humiliated, like burying her face in her hands. But it was funny, you know, the anesthesiologist was laughing. It was good. Then a little later, the nurse comes over and she's asking me some questions about my health, medications, you know, my pharmacy. And she says, have you ever been prescribed oxycodone before? And I say, oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. You know, I know what to do. You crush them up and you do them off your wife's stomach, right? So, and you know, the nurse was laughing. She loved it. So, yeah, I felt like my material was on point heading into the surgery. You know, if I croaked in the OR, at least my bits killed, you know, my last bits killed, you know, no pun intended.
