A thriller called The Whisper Man on Netflix.

**Ash Kelley** (1:43)

**Alaina Urquhart** (1:45)
And this is Morbid.

**Ash Kelley** (2:01)
It's a bonus episode, everybody. Honey, happy August.

**Alaina Urquhart** (2:04)
Here's your bonus episode.

**Ash Kelley** (2:06)
Hey, it's almost September.

**Alaina Urquhart** (2:09)
I was going to sing something, but then I-

**Ash Kelley** (2:10)
I didn't know why you were pausing. I was like, yes, right?

**Alaina Urquhart** (2:13)
No, we're wicked close. I was going to sing something and then I didn't know what to sing.

**Ash Kelley** (2:17)
That's okay.

**Alaina Urquhart** (2:18)
It happens to the best of us.

**Ash Kelley** (2:19)
It does happen. It's Friday.

**Alaina Urquhart** (2:20)
It's Friday.

**SPEAKER_3** (2:21)
It's Friday.

**Alaina Urquhart** (2:23)
I love Friday.

**Ash Kelley** (2:25)
Today is a bonus episode, so it's a little loosey goosey, a little different. We've been doing the twilight of it all.
We've had some guests on.

**Alaina Urquhart** (2:33)
Some book clubbies.

**Ash Kelley** (2:35)
Today, we're going to start a new little series that might go through spooky season. Might dribble them in there.

**Alaina Urquhart** (2:41)
I like it.

**Ash Kelley** (2:41)
We're going to talk about bogeymen. We're going to talk about bogeymen, the folklore involving them, the social attitudes around them, how they come to be, what they are.

**Alaina Urquhart** (2:50)
Different places.

**Ash Kelley** (2:51)
Yeah, different places that they come from. So today, we're going to talk about like three different bogeymen. Boogie people, I should say. Boogie people.
This is an inclusive show. It is. And we'll follow this up with three more, and we'll keep sprinkling them in every once in a while because these bonus episodes are fun. It can kind of just be.

**Alaina Urquhart** (3:09)
We should name them Let's Boogie.

**Ash Kelley** (3:11)
Let's Boogie. That's the series. Let's Boogie. There it is. That was so clever.

**Alaina Urquhart** (3:17)
How did I come up with that?

**Ash Kelley** (3:18)
That was amazing. It was tough. So this first one, we're talking about bogeymen around the world, bogeymen and women around the world.

**Alaina Urquhart** (3:26)
Okay.

**Ash Kelley** (3:28)
So let's get right into it.

**Alaina Urquhart** (3:29)
Tell me everything about these boogie humans.

**Ash Kelley** (3:31)
So the bogeyman is kind of like this ambiguous figure.
And in different cultures, like there's tons of bogeymen all around the world. Oh yeah. And cultures can kind of project their specific fears and anxieties onto their specific bogeymen. Yeah. You know, that's kind of where they come from. And according to historian Marina Warner, they belong neither in literary or visual manifestations of art, but in that indeterminate elusive territory that has been called folklore.

**Alaina Urquhart** (4:00)
I love folklore.

**Ash Kelley** (4:01)
I do too. There are a broad category of monster or supernatural being that circulates within a culture as a warning.
Bogeymen are definitely warning signs for sure. They're warnings to avoid certain places or to behave in certain ways.
