And now, let's get started.
Leon Rose and James Dolan at odds. Leon Rose has helped turn the New York Knicks into NBA Champions. He did this in large part with James Dolan staying out of the way. But now, James Dolan is involved again. And Leon Rose is at odds with the Knicks owner after his recent decision. Shout out to NBA insider Fred Katz with The Athletic for giving us this following information. According to him, the Knicks front office knows that James Dolan wants New York to stay under the 2nd apron. And yet, it also understands that dipping below the 2nd apron would lead to much of its depth flocking elsewhere. Which is why, despite Dolan's desires, it wants to go over the 2nd apron. According to league sources, who were granted on amenity to speak freely. But so far, Dolan has not changed his mind. You know what makes this situation even worse? Leon Rose and the Knicks front office, they were blindsided by James Dolan's recent comments. Take a look at this update. Shout out to Fred Katz of The Athletic, and James L. Edwards of The Athletic for giving us this following information. This breakdown was given to us by posting and toasting. Listen to this.
It sounds like a mandate from Dolan. That was my takeaway from the draft. To be clear, the not going into the second apron stuff, the front office did not advise that. It was not like the front office went to Dolan and was like, no. Strategically, it's helpful to not go into the second apron. That didn't happen. Then Dolan went on the radio, and people in the Knicks were like, wait, what? They were blindsided. The Knicks front office understands that if they don't go into the second apron, they are going to lose guys. And if they just let guys walk, they are not going to be able to get the equivalent guys back, because they won't have the room. By all accounts, going into the second apron with this team, a team that just won a championship, it's the smartest decision to make. But James Dolan, he's not budging. He does not want New York to go into the second apron. Fred Katz continues here by stating, stay under the second apron, and that changes things. The Knicks lose many of those players without the ability to replace them. The smart basketball strategy is to retain the assets, to re-sign free agents Robinson and Shammet, especially.
But Dolan disagrees with the experts.
Throw caution to the wind. The second apron is not as daunting as some may claim. If the New York Knicks remain below it, as owner James Dolan said they would, they will enter next season as a worse basketball team.
Let's make this clear. Without a doubt, Leon Rose and this Knicks front office, if James Dolan never said anything, New York would be a second apron team right now. Because Leon Rose, he wanted to resign everyone from this championship roster, so they could come back next season. And why?
So they can try to go back to back, so they can win multiple titles. When you win a championship, the first thing is not to break them up, it's to keep them together. However, after James Dolan made those comments about not wanting to go into the second apron, but even more than that, that he would not pay for this team to go into the second apron, Leon Rose's hands are tied. The Knicks front office, they can only do so much. They have to be creative in terms of who they bring back and at what cost. They already brought back Mohamed Diawara and recently Jose Alvarado. But apart from those guys, when you look at the rest of the team, Jordan Clarkson, he's likely not coming back. Jeremy Sohan, he's likely not coming back. Landry Shamit, he's gonna get significant offers from all around the NBA. I doubt that he comes back. And Mitchell Robinson, it's rumored that the Lakers...
