**Ganesh** (0:00)
How is it that the Indian Army is able to consistently produce such amazing leaders?
**Captain Raghu Raman** (0:03)
The Army recognizes the cost of bad leaders. Because our mistakes come home in body bags.
**Ganesh** (0:13)
Sir, you work with Mukesh Ambani sir, Anand Mahindra sir, and Gautam Adani sir also. So how do these leaders function?
**Captain Raghu Raman** (0:19)
There is a story there. Midas does. Wherever he puts his hand, money comes.
**Ganesh** (0:24)
Today, whatever is happening in my organization, it's somewhere or the other stems from the inspiration that I've observed from you. The way you've spoken, the way you educate, the way you've kept the learning curve going.
**SPEAKER_3** (0:36)
He's worked at Mahindra Group, and now he's the Group President of Reliance Industries. Please welcome Captain Raghu Raman.
**Captain Raghu Raman** (0:44)
You don't choose occupations. Many times, occupations choose you.
**SPEAKER_3** (0:49)
He's been part of the Indian Army. He's fought terrorists at the Siachen Glacier.
**Captain Raghu Raman** (0:53)
The Indian Military Academy has been covered in iron.
**Ganesh** (0:57)
Do you believe these B-Schools train students to become great leaders?
**Captain Raghu Raman** (1:01)
I don't think any school can teach people to become great leaders. So I think the real challenge India is going to be facing is this leadership pipeline. Dharavi today is about 400 square kilometers, and it generates $4 billion if I'm not wrong.
**Ganesh** (1:16)
Really, the Army is so strict on the outset. How do they ensure that the same people know how to break protocol and yet achieve the objective?
**Captain Raghu Raman** (1:34)
If you don't, you're dealing with human lives. When you say half turn right, 1.5 million soldiers know it's 45 degrees.
**Ganesh** (1:46)
Sweating in peace so that you don't bleed in war.
**Captain Raghu Raman** (1:49)
You're all like special forces. You jump out of aircrafts into Pakistan. You don't feel scared. But 50% of our population of women, they feel scared.
**Ganesh** (1:58)
Why are you saying? Like, I've done so much of work in the past two years.
**Captain Raghu Raman** (2:01)
This was not called for. You went too far.
**Ganesh** (2:20)

Hi everybody, this episode of the podcast is very special because today I have my first and only super boss at the podcast.
His name is Captain Raghu Raman and Raghu sir has worked with Mukesh Ambani, Gautam Adani and even Anand Mahindra. And I just happened to have the fortune to be his intern at the very start of my career at Reliance. And what makes him extremely special is that he has worked with the Indian Army for 11 years, then he worked in the corporate sector for 13 years, and after 26-11, he even led the Nat Grid unit for India. So in this podcast, he brings three decades of wisdom in about two, two and a half hours, which will give you such timeless leadership lessons that you will keep re-visiting this episode over and over again. And by the way, this episode just starts abruptly with Raghu Sir speaking because we just started rolling the cameras while we were having a candid conversation. So sit back, take notes and let me know in the comments about what you think about Raghu Sir and this wonderful leadership episode.
