This episode is sponsored by Underdog. Underdog is the easiest place to play fantasy sports, and they give you a ton of different games and contests to choose from each week. If you think drafting is over because the season started, you'd be wrong. You can draft teams over there each week in literal minutes. Right now, if you sign up on Underdog with promo code LATEROUND, you not only get a deposit offer of up to $1,000, but you also get access to my rest of season rankings. Those will be emailed to you once you sign up. But when you sign up, you have to use promo code LATEROUND. Head to underdogfantasy.com or download the app to do so. Again, that's promo code LATEROUND. Now back to the show. I mean, so much to talk about. I'm sitting here. I'm crossing my fingers that I don't lose power during this recording because I'm in Charlotte, North Carolina, so we're not getting hit by the hurricane the same way that folks in Florida are getting hit by the hurricane. But there is just like constant rain. We've had thunderstorms for like every night for the last three days. So hopefully, fingers crossed, technology wise, everything's good to go.
Theo Gremminger (1:32)
Yeah. Mother Nature throwing you for a curve right before Thursday Night Football. So yeah, it's you never know in this business.
JJ Zachariason (1:39)
Exactly. And I always like the caveat. I always like the caveat that we are recording this before Thursday night. So hopefully, the Malik Neighbors train keeps on rolling ahead. And once people are listening to this, hopefully, Neighbors has some fantasy points for you on Friday. Because I know both you and I have been in on Neighbors this year.
Theo Gremminger (1:58)
All summer long, we were singing the praises of Malik Neighbors. I said during the summer that we're going to have two rookie wide receiver ones. And yeah, Malik Neighbors is currently the wide receiver one overall. And it's the game within the game, not to talk too much Thursday when this is airing after Thursday, but the Malik Neighbors, Trayvon Diggs, trash talk all summer long now comes to into fruition. Dallas Defense not looking nearly where they were last year either. This is like I live on Long Island and there is a lot of hope from Giants fans that they can win this game outright tonight. So yeah, Malik Neighbors gives hope to an entire community.
JJ Zachariason (2:34)
Yeah, I love it, man. I love it. He gives hope to a lot of dead fantasy teams, too.
Theo Gremminger (2:40)
Dynasty is funny this year. I wrote this this week. I'm doing this Dynasty article on Fantasy Points where I do stock up, stock down. You could literally have Malik Neighbors stock up every week. But it's funny that a lot of people go into the Dynasty season with Jaden Daniels, Malik Neighbors on their team, meaning that they had one of the first picks in a super flexed rookie draft. You might walk into the season thinking, I'm still rebuilding. Now, suddenly, these teams are like 3-0, and some of the teams that had these older veterans are 0-3. So the dichotomy of Dynasty has flipped upside down so quickly because of just how impactful these rookies are.
JJ Zachariason (3:19)
I think my biggest learning as a Dynasty player, I've been playing Dynasty for probably a decade or so now.
I think once I started really modeling rookies and getting better at rookie analysis, is when my game went to the next level just from an evaluation standpoint, and feeling better about the picks that I was getting and stuff like that, and then also understanding the market side of things and how to just get value on your team. But I think one of the most overrated things in Dynasty in general has to be you going after veteran assets because you think that your team is in win-now mode, when oftentimes, not only is there variance in a typical playoff, but oftentimes, when you re-, like I've had teams, last year I had a team that I completely rebuilt and I won the championship just because you hit on, I mean, I literally had one of the, it was just one of those drafts where things just went really, really well, Laporta, Gibbs, Jayden Reed, all of that just hit at the right time. But I think that people overstate and then understate the opposite. You don't have to be in a rebuild for that long of a period of time.
