Kyle Borgognoni is the Editor-in-Chief at the Fantasy Footballers, and he hosts both the Fantasy Footballers DFS and Dynasty Podcasts. He's a dad, a Falcons and Braves fan, a teacher, a pastor, and his last name is tougher to pronounce than mine. These are his Late-Round Prospects.
You probably, of anyone in the fantasy football space, you're the one who rivals me most. I mean, you're ahead of me in terms of last name pronunciation.
Kyle Borgognoni (0:37)
I was thinking, you and I are basically in different spots, different companies and stuff like that, but a lot of overlap of what we've done, and then the same season of life of like what you just turned 37?
JJ Zachariason (0:51)
Just turned 37, unfortunately.
Kyle Borgognoni (0:52)
I'm 37 too.
JJ Zachariason (0:53)
Yeah, we're old.
We're getting there, man. We're getting there. Yeah. Also, I know you have an affinity for Mighty Ducks, don't you?
Kyle Borgognoni (1:01)
Yes. So maybe it's the stats part of me, but when I think about those movies as a kid, I don't just think about them like this is what happened. I think about it as like this was a real world of 90s peewee hockey, and if I can figure out the stats for this, then I love it even more. So I do have a good stat sheet of all three movies and what happened.
JJ Zachariason (1:23)
Oh, like legitimately, like that deep of a breakdown of what went down in those movies.
Kyle Borgognoni (1:28)
Like whose ice time really is the best, but Guy Germain, low-key, best player on the team.
JJ Zachariason (1:33)
Really? Really. Wow. So did you actually sit down and calculate this?
Kyle Borgognoni (1:38)
Yeah. I mean, I granted the tape, brother.
JJ Zachariason (1:41)
I didn't know. Wait. No, we're spending five minutes on this. I need to spend time on this. So you reception perception, if you will, the Mighty Ducks movies.
Kyle Borgognoni (1:53)
Yeah. And the thing is, is like there's so much more there. There also is a couple of glitches in the movie where what the announcer says is different than what actually happens on film. So you kind of have to make a call sometimes of like, you know what, like Averman's scoring here, but he's actually on the bench. So yeah, right. What do I do?
JJ Zachariason (2:11)
But so is it like when there's instances, like I'm thinking D2, okay? Let's everybody, everyone, especially millennials out there, think about D2, which to me is the best of the trilogy.
Kyle Borgognoni (2:21)
I would agree with you.
JJ Zachariason (2:22)
Yeah, okay, that's good. That's good that we're on the same page there. So D2, when they're doing like the montage of them beating teams, right? And like the scores are like, but then they like play Jamaica at one point.
Kyle Borgognoni (2:34)
Trinidad and Tobago.
JJ Zachariason (2:35)
Trinidad and Tobago, that's what it was, yeah. Wasn't it like 10 to 2 or 10 to 3? So, but they skip over, are you using any modeling to forecast who scored those goals to get to that point before they moved on in the tournament?
Kyle Borgognoni (2:49)
It is tough because you can actually figure out how they, and I've, there's a lot of fun deep dives of like, of like how they figured out who would be on the ice when and what shots they would use. Like there's a lot of great interviews from Steve Brill. And so you can figure out who was there and who could have been out of the, you know, five guys on the ice. And kind of deduce from there, there's also some major losers in the first movie where like they don't score, they're worthless. Yeah, so.
JJ Zachariason (3:15)
I mean, the first movie, there were a ton of horrible players. At least the second one, the second one you had a pretty cohesive group going on. Like you knew that they were good. The first one was just a bunch of misfits. And it's really, really a stars and scrubs approach to that team.
Kyle Borgognoni (3:29)
Yeah, I mean, in D2, you get the best from around the country, which is kind of hilarious when you're like, oh, it's like these five guys, that's all the guys.
JJ Zachariason (3:37)
Yeah, exactly. Exactly. That's amazing, though. I still to this day will randomly like cite. Like I think that D2 in terms of dialogue is probably one of my most memorized movies. Not sure. I mean, probably ever, because I don't really do that anymore. Like my brain doesn't work that way anymore. Like I said, like we already said and established, we're old. Like back in the day, like I remember my, I wish my brain didn't work this way, but every 90s commercial jingle, I just remember still to this day. I remember my fifth grade chorus plays, the lines that I had when I was Santa Claus and stuff, like all sorts of stuff like that. Couldn't remember anything like that today, but Mighty Ducks, D2 in particular, was the movie that got me most probably.
