Dave Richard has spent two decades covering fantasy football, joining CBS Sports all the way back in 2006 as an analyst. He's now a staple of fantasy football today. He was NFL.com's first ever fantasy football analyst, he's Chicago born, and he's also a Miami Hurricane. These are his late-round perspectives.

Look at you wearing the white socks gear.

Dave Richard (0:30)

Hell, yeah, man. Gotta represent the hometown team.

JJ Zachariason (0:34)

It gives me hope as a Pirates fan that someday a turnaround and insane underdog story can happen for my team. I'm gluten-free these days, so I haven't eaten gluten in like eight years, right? But even still...

Dave Richard (0:49)

That's more than these days, JJ. Yeah, that's true.

JJ Zachariason (0:52)

That's a good point.

Dave Richard (0:54)

Yeah, these days, I haven't had much gluten. We're going on 2,500 days.

JJ Zachariason (0:58)

Exactly. But I have an IC light from 2014, which is around the time frame of like when the McCutcheon, you know, the good teams were happening. This is actually... Today that we're recording this is the anniversary of the Johnny Quedo game, where he dropped the ball in the wild card game against the Pirates, and then Russell Martin hit a home run, and it was great. It was one of the best times of my life as a Pirates fan. But regardless, I have an IC light in the fridge from 2014, so it's like 12 years old, and I've told myself that I will drink that if the Pirates ever win a World Series.

IC light is an Iron City light. I should have probably said. I know what it is.

Dave Richard (1:35)

I'm familiar. You're not making me question what IC light is. You're making me question your sanity, because you're planning on chugging a few day old beer based on how we're measuring days.

JJ Zachariason (1:49)

Yeah, look, if me not eating gluten has been eight years, this is like, you know, that was just a couple of days ago. It's just a week old beer.

Dave Richard (1:58)

What do you think? I was born yesterday.

JJ Zachariason (2:00)

Right, right, right. Exactly. But it's exciting.

The White Sox stuff is very exciting.

Dave Richard (2:06)

Oh, man. We have three straight years of a hundred losses, including the worst season in Major League Baseball history. And I paid attention to the team. It's literally, I don't really follow baseball. Like you're going through this whole Johnny Quedo thing. I have no idea what you're talking about. No clue.

JJ Zachariason (2:22)

To be fair, I barely at this point in my life, I am very much just a very casual baseball follower. Yes.

Dave Richard (2:30)

But do you pay attention when Paul Skeens pitches?

JJ Zachariason (2:33)

Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

Dave Richard (2:34)

Okay. All right. So let's just step up from a casual follower.

JJ Zachariason (2:38)

Yeah.

Dave Richard (2:38)

I don't think I can name three Pittsburgh Pirates. Okay. Is McCutcheon still like on?

JJ Zachariason (2:43)

He was not. He was last year. He left and came back.

Dave Richard (2:46)

I remember hearing. I remember reading about that. I know who Paul Skeens is.

JJ Zachariason (2:50)

Yeah.

Dave Richard (2:51)

But I couldn't name you three pirates. I don't think I can name you five Mets.

JJ Zachariason (2:56)

Yeah.

Dave Richard (2:56)

I can name you everything you want to know about the players on the White Sox. I'm a fan.

JJ Zachariason (3:00)

Yeah. That's all I do.

Dave Richard (3:01)

Because I can't be a fan of any NFL team.

JJ Zachariason (3:04)

Right.

Dave Richard (3:04)

And I like watching the NBA. I ended up rooting for the Knicks this year. It's something I never did in my life as a Chicagoan. In hockey, I love Stanley Cup hockey.

I live in South Florida. I root for the Panthers, and of course I root for the Blackhawks when they make it that far. But the only pro sport where I can be just a total fan, an idiot, obnoxious fan, is the White Sox baseball.

And I have to keep it that way just to keep me sane, because I don't root for the Bears. I don't even like the Bears. I don't root for any NFL team. You know who I root for on Sundays? I root for the players that I tell people to start.

JJ Zachariason (3:46)

That's safe, yes. People think that we're just worried about it. Of course we want our fantasy teams to do well, there's overlap there, of course. But we have a lot on the line in terms of advice that we're giving.
