Joanna Robinson (0:30)

Tom King here on the show to talk about the Lanterns finale. Mallory Rubin, anything you want to say about that?

Mallory Rubin (0:35)

Not only is Tom King the co-creator, one of the co-creators, along with Damon Lindelof and Chris Mundy of Lanterns and an executive producer of Lanterns, he is one of the great comic book writers and creators in recent memory. So it was really a treat to talk to Tom about this finale and about the season of TV, but also just a balanced story about Apples, about Billy's Dip, about football, Star Trek and about being a nerd who loves this stuff. We really had a blast. It was such a treat to get to break this all down with Tom.

Joanna Robinson (1:08)

This is a full spoilers, all of it. All of the time discussion. From minute one. So for the Lanterns finale, if you have not watched that yet, go watch that and come back and listen to our conversation with Tom King.

Mallory Rubin (1:18)

Then mere hours after that, come back to the House of R feed, the Ring of Earth YouTube channel, because our deep dive, correct, on the season finale will be waiting for you first thing Monday morning. You know the drill from there. Watch, follow, hang out with us, send us your emails, do it all.

Joanna Robinson (1:38)

Excellent, so we're gonna get to our conversation with Tom King right after this.

This episode is brought to you by Quince. We've all got something in our closet that we go back to again and again. The trick is finding pieces like that. And luckily, Quince is all about creating elevated everyday essentials you'll never want to take off. Their pieces are high quality and made with materials like organic cotton and premium stretched denim without insane markups. Like you can get 100% Mongolian cashmere sweater starting at $50.

I've been loving personally, Quince has a whole line of linen button down shirts and I'm in my linen button down shirt era because summers in Los Angeles are oppressively hot. So this is something I've been really, really enjoying based off of what I got from Quince. And I was really shocked by how reasonably priced they were. So you can find the fall pieces you'll reach for most at Quince, download the Quince app for app exclusive offers, or go to quince.com, get free shipping on your order, and 365-day returns. Now available in Canada and the UK too. And when Quince asks where you heard about them, let them know it was House of R. It's the best way to support the show.

I'm pro football hall of fame, O'Brien Dawkins, and I lived for a long time with something I did not know the name of, major depressive disorder.

SPEAKER_4 (2:48)

I carry sadness and anger because I thought I could handle it alone, but I couldn't. Now I want to make sure others know that that support is out there.

SPEAKER_3 (2:57)

If you're experiencing similar symptoms, talk to a health care professional.

Paid partnership with Johnson & Johnson. O'Brien Dawkins has not prescribed Capilita Luma-Teparone.

SPEAKER_6 (3:09)

This little light of mine In the dark sound of hopeful sun I needed more from my antidepressant, so my doctor added Capilita Luma-Teparone, proven to provide greater relief from depression symptoms than an antidepressant alone, building on my progress without starting over. Capilita is for adults with major depressive disorder when used with an antidepressant and is available by prescription only. Individual results may vary. In clinical trials, weight gain was not common.

SPEAKER_5 (3:37)

Elderly dementia patients have increased risk of death or stroke. Capilita is not approved for dementia-related psychosis. Call your doctor about new or sudden mood changes, behaviors, or suicidal thoughts right away. Antidepressants may increase these risks. Report fever, confusion, stiff muscles, which may be life-threatening, or uncontrolled muscle movements, which may be permanent. High cholesterol and weight gain may occur, as can high blood sugar, which may be fatal. Monitoring is recommended. Common side effects are sleepiness, dizziness, nausea, dry mouth, feeling tired, and diarrhea. These aren't all the side effects.

SPEAKER_6 (4:04)

Ask your doctor about Capilita. Learn more at capilita.com or call 888-252-4824.

Joanna Robinson (4:10)

I want to start. I've actually, this is a cheat. I've actually heard you talk about this elsewhere, but I found it so fascinating that I'm going to ask it myself, just in case our podcast listeners haven't heard it.

Tom King (4:20)

I feel like it's a test, and if I say a different answer than before, I'll have screwed it up.
