We were saying this off camera, I think it would be really funny if they just revealed one every round.

Alec Fields (0:04)

Yep, just one new band card.

Paul McGee (0:06)

And you don't know when it will happen. Like it might be the beginning of the match, and we might make both players stop.

And just end up not having a band card.

Alec Fields (0:16)

The next band card. Welcome back to The Pod of Greed.

Paul McGee (0:21)

Welcome back indeed, folks. We, out of nowhere, are about to have the coolest episode of this podcast in a while.

Alec Fields (0:30)

You know, it's been a long time since I felt like, you know, Konami would feed us for a pod, but...

Paul McGee (0:35)

Yeah, they surprised us because...

Alec Fields (0:36)

Gave us a little something-something.

Paul McGee (0:38)

You guys know why we're here today, or I guess today when we're recording it.

Alec Fields (0:43)

Yeah, that's why we're here.

Paul McGee (0:45)

There have been some big announcements of an upcoming Yu-Gi-Oh Forbidden and Limited list. Out of nowhere, huge surprise. We're going to talk about it alongside some other news stories, of course, from the past week and everything else. Before we get into it, though, remember to like the video. Yeah, and subscribe if you aren't already. I know it's very annoying to be told by every YouTuber you see that, you know, please subscribe, please do all this stuff. But it really does help. We appreciate it if you do.

Alec Fields (1:13)

And if you only like the video of one creator today, let it be us, please. Yeah, that'd be great.

Paul McGee (1:21)

This is exciting because I'm going to YCS Houston this weekend.

Alec Fields (1:25)

That's Houston. That's not a text show.

Paul McGee (1:26)

Yeah, I'm going to be there. If you're going to be there, listener, please come say hi. I promise I don't bite. And speaking of YCS Houston, though, Konami announced on the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG Facebook, Twitter, social media pages, forbidden and limited list updates are coming to prep for magnificent maestros. With 34 newly forbidden cards and eight limited cards, we're revealing the list in five parts at YCS Houston.

One on Friday, two each on Saturday and Sunday.

Alec Fields (2:03)

Wow.

Paul McGee (2:04)

So, huge bombshell news. Huge, huge Yu-Gi-Oh news.

We just got a new ban list a few weeks ago.

Alec Fields (2:13)

Yeah, it feels like no time has passed since then. I feel like we haven't even settled into the new format.

Paul McGee (2:20)

Not even hit a month since the last ban list, but we've already got confirmation that we're getting another. And this is, if it's to be believed, which it is, I mean, it came from Konami themselves, is going to be the largest forbidden and limited list update Yu-Gi-Oh has ever seen. And we've seen some big ones. We saw a really big one after like Dragon Roller format. We saw a really big one, I remember, like January 2020, that was kind of after Toss format.

Alec Fields (2:44)

And technically, the last one was... It was pretty big. It was a pretty big list.

Paul McGee (2:49)

Yeah, but I think this will be the largest one. 34 new forbidden cards.

Alec Fields (2:54)

That's such a crazy, staggering number. It feels like Konami heard our complaints that even though they banned quite a few cards last time, it just wasn't enough. It feels like they just kind of like doubled, doubled it to say, you know what? We're gonna raise and double that.

Paul McGee (3:09)

Yeah.

34 newly limited cards or newly forbidden cards, eight limited cards and revealed in five parts. So where do we want to start with this? I think... Why do you think this is happening?

Alec Fields (3:23)

That's actually what I was gonna say. Why do you think this is happening?

Paul McGee (3:26)

And we'll talk about what we maybe think some of the cards should be and all that, but I do like to always start these from the why.

Alec Fields (3:33)

Right.

It's very interesting that so soon after the last banlist announcement and going into effect, we have another announcement. So before we even get to Magnificent Maestro's, which is the next major like upheaval to our format, gives us the toon cards, you know, that we're looking forward to so much.

Paul McGee (3:57)

And there's like also just other stray little support things in that set. But yeah, Toon is the big one.

Alec Fields (4:02)

That's the big one. And so people weren't too happy with the last banlist. It wasn't even that list specifically. We weren't specifically mad at that list. We were mad that that list did not put a big enough dent into the current format to feel impactful and we knew what was coming. So it really didn't feel impactful since people were still going to be digging in our hands and making unbreakable boards.
