The Knicks get good news, but then we have some good news and some bad news to discuss today. But like always, let's start with the good news first. The Knicks finally won their first Summer League game. Take a look.
As you can see here, New York beats the Pistons, 86-75, for their first Summer League victory.
There were a lot of heroes in that game for New York that helped them get that victory. But without a doubt, this was Jack Kayil's best game as a Knick. Best game of Summer League. Take a look at what he did.
Newest Knick rookie, Jack Kayil, had 19 points, 4 assists and 3 steals. This is amazing news for the Knicks. It looks like they hit on both of their draft picks. Kayil played great defense, demonstrated amazing court vision, and was finding different ways to get to the basket. His shot still needs work, especially his 3-point shot. But even though that's the case, he was still able to knock down some 3s. He was playing amazing basketball today, and he sent a clear message to the Knicks. Don't ship me overseas next season. Keep me on the roster. Give me a two-way contract and watch how I develop. Watch what I can do with Westchester. And in my opinion, he deserves that two-way contract. This kid keeps getting better every game he steps on the floor. But we're not done yet. We have even more good news from that exact game. Tyler Nickel, the other rookie the Knicks have. While he didn't shoot the ball that well during this game, he was still able to hit a couple of threes. Especially when he's open, he's near automatic. But for this game, during this victory, Tyler Nickel, he proved that he's more than just the shooter. Because he was playing great defense, getting rebounds. But even more than that, he was playmaking. He was driving inside and making the right pass. This kid can shoot the ball, but it's clear. He has other levels of the game that he absolutely understands, and he's ready to showcase to the world. And this is why for me personally, this kid has a bright future in the league. Because he's not even scratching the surface of all the things he can add to a team. All the things that he can bring to a roster. Yes, the shooting, but also the defense, the rebounding, the playmaking. It's absolutely clear. This kid has a lot of untapped potential. And with New York, they're gonna try to get to that potential, develop this kid, and make him into a future bench piece for New York. Exactly where he belongs. This was an amazing game for the Knicks, especially for the two rookies. This is great news for New York. But that's not the only good news we have. Here's an image of the captain, Jalen Brunson, post-surgery. Take a look.
As you can see, Jalen Brunson is showing off that he recently had wrist surgery. You can see his wrist heavily taped up. He's also wearing an arm sling, so he doesn't put undue stress onto that wrist. But at least from this picture, he looks like he's happy, he's not in pain, he's stress-free, given the circumstances and the fact that he just got surgery, this is the best type of look we can expect from Jalen Brunson. And I know for some of you, this might look like bad news. But that wrist is really not in bad shape. Brunson should be back for training camp. And you want to know how I know that? Because if that wrist was really bad, or causing him a lot of pain, he wouldn't be doing the following on Saturday night. WWE World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns, the OTC, said the following, to the King of New York Jalen Brunson, The Mecca, MSG, Let's have the whole world acknowledge us at WWE Saturday night's main event. And Brunson, he was clear with his response, see you there, throwing up the one, acknowledging the OTC.
