The Knicks receive good news. We have good news to discuss today before tomorrow's season opener against the 76ers. This first piece of good news has to do with James Wiseman. Mike Brown recently revealed why the Knicks chose Wiseman over Bruce Brown. Take a look at what he had to say.
According to Mike Brown, when you have a guy that's 25 years old, that has the length and athleticism and the talent as James Wiseman, because Kat's not athletic like that, and Andre was once that, he still has some of it, but to have that at 25 years old, especially with where we are as a group, you will look for guys that coulda shoulda, but at his age, maybe he still can be a coulda shoulda.
That vertical threat at the rim, the vertical threat defensively, how good he runs, you welcome that at his size and age and athleticism. Honestly, that makes the most sense to me.
New York needed a big all-off season long, another big right alongside Drummond and Kat, and they just added that with James Wiseman. That was the right call and the right addition over Bruce Brown. The next piece of good news we have to discuss today has to do with Miles McBride's agent, who honestly left the door open for a possible extension later on this season. Take a look at what he had to say recently.
According to Miles McBride's agent, Bartlestein, he said the following, We've spoken to the Knicks throughout the summer. Miles, like any player in his position, would love to get an extension. I think he's earned it. He's been a huge part of where that organization has gone over the last three or four years. He's been their sixth man. A lot of people don't realize how hurt he played last year in the postseason. He had abdominal surgery that caused him to miss a couple of months. He came back and he wasn't really right yet, but he didn't want to miss the opportunity to be there for his teammates. He continues by stating, No doubt, Deuce would love to get an extension, but at the end of the day, you work for the Knicks and it takes two sides to get a deal done. And if the Knicks aren't ready to do extensions right now, then we just gotta buckle up and go and have a great season. He'll be a free agent this summer, but we'll see. We've got a great relationship with President Leon Rose and the front office. We'll see. There may be opportunities during the season, maybe in the near future. Who knows where we'll be able to have those conversations.
According to McBride's agent, we cannot rule out an extension to produce at this point in time. They could possibly revisit extension talks later on in the season. Our next piece of good news has to deal with Josh Hart. Now, initially, this may not sound like good news, but if you wait for it, I promise you, it gets better. As you can see here, according to Ian Bagley, Josh Hart missed the final preseason game for New York, dealing with a sore right ankle.
Mike Brown said he doesn't think Josh Hart's ankle injury will impact his status for tomorrow night. He also said that he started Diawara in that final preseason game because he wanted to see if he had the opportunity how he would guard Kawhi Leonard and Scottie Barnes. It doesn't sound like good news, right? Until you pair that news with this following update. Shout out to New York Basketball on the AppX for giving us this following information. The Knicks report zero injuries for their season opener tomorrow night against the 76ers. That means that sore ankle from Josh Hart, it's no longer an issue. He's fine. The entire roster is fine. They're going to be fully healthy and available for tomorrow night's opening night matchup.
Speaking of tomorrow night's matchup, the good news continues by speaking about one of the Ops on the other team, LeBron James. Yeah, I know. How can this be good news if we're talking about LeBron? Well, it's not really talking about LeBron and the 76ers, but rather what LeBron had to say about OG Anunoby in the NBA Finals. Shout out to SNY Knicks on the AppX for giving us this following information. The quote from LeBron James is that OG I think was the MVP of the team in the Finals. And this is the full quote from LeBron James. OG I think was the MVP of the team in the Finals. Obviously Brunson became the MVP, but it's all the small things. The chase down block on Fox, the tip-in game winner in game four of the NBA Finals, continuing to knock down threes. We knew Jalen Brunson was the head of the snake, but I think OG was the most steady person for that team. That's very high praise for OG Anunoby from LeBron James. Honestly speaking, I don't really think he's wrong. Whether Brunson won it or OG won it, it doesn't change that the Knicks are your reigning defending NBA champions. OG probably could have won it, but Jalen Brunson dropped in 45 with a risk that needed surgery in a Game 5 where everything mattered, where everything was on the line. I think they made the right call. Brunson as Finals MVP is perfectly fine with me.
