The Knicks sign a pure shooter. The Knicks have a tendency after the NBA draft to sign undrafted rookies to the team, scout them, and see what they can do. And this time, they did the same thing again. By signing a pure shooter. Shout out to Deshawn London for giving us this following information. St. John's Guard, Oziyah Sellers, has signed the summer league deal with the New York Knicks.
Sellers did not get selected in the 2026 NBA draft. But he's coming off a season where he averaged 10.3 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per contest while shooting 42.9% from the field and 35.1% from three point range in 37 games for St. John's.
Sellers also spent time at USC and Stanford over four seasons of college basketball.
He shot 37.8% from three in 130 career games.
This kid is a lethal shooter, high basketball IQ type of player. He already has the shooting that will translate very well to the NBA level. He just needs to put everything else together. Here's some more information on exactly what this kid can do.
The Knicks have added another intriguing young prospect to their summer league roster, signing former St. John's Guard, Oziyah Sellers, after he went undrafted in this year's draft. Sellers is 6'5, 185 pounds. He's a shooting guard who took an interesting path through college basketball. He spent two seasons at USC, transferred to Stanford for a year, and finished his collegiate career at St. John's under Rick Pitino. At 22 years old, he entered the draft with plenty of experience and a very defined skillset. His biggest strength is simple, it's his shooting. Sellers has built a reputation as an elite catch and shoot threat. Across 130 college games, he knocked down nearly 38% of his three-point attempts, while shooting an outstanding 86.9% from the free throw line. Those numbers suggest his shooting should translate well to the next level. He's also an intelligent offensive player. Under Rick Pitino, Sellers posted an incredible 7 to 1 assist turnover ratio, during Big East play, showing excellent decision making and ball security. He doesn't force the action, and understands how to play within an offense. Off the ball, he fits the modern NBA game extremely well. He's comfortable running off screens, relocating around the perimeter, and finding open space for quick, efficient jumpers. That's exactly the type of complementary skill NBA teams look for in role players. But obviously, there's a reason he went undrafted. Sellers isn't known for creating his own shot, and he can struggle to consistently generate separation off the dribble. At 185 pounds, he'll also need to add strength to handle the physicality of NBA wings. Defensively, while his sides gives him potential, his on-ball defense and rebounding have been inconsistent throughout his college career. For The Knicks though, this is the exact kind of low-risk summer league signing worth taking a chance on. If Sellers can prove his shooting translates against NBA competition, while showing improvement defensively, he has a realistic opportunity to earn a training camp invitation and potentially compete for a two-way contract. Every team is searching for a reliable 3-and-D wing, and that's the mold Sellers is hoping to fit. He's certainly a player Knick fans should keep their eye on during the summer league.
