It's time for Kickoff with Boomer Esiason and Mike Valenti.

Mike Valenti (0:09)

And we are back at his kickoff with Boomer and Valenti, Week 6 in the National Football League. This is sure to be an emotional episode for Mr. Boomer Esiason. What's going on, buddy?

Boomer Esiason (0:18)

It's going to be emotional for sure, Mike, because watching Thursday's night football game between two quarterbacks, one being really careful and the other one being really careless, made for a very poor football game. However, it was an overtime game, and I think the NFL is going to tell you, here you go, another one score game, which is something that they have been promoting since the season has started. Most of the football has been exciting, but Thursday night football was not this week.

Mike Valenti (0:46)

No, we've got to kind of peel the layers of the onion back. If you told me that was Dolphins and Titans, and that's the quarterback play I was getting, I'd believe you.

Broncos, it's a, no, I'm serious now. This is more than my disdain for Sam Darnold. Bo Knicks stinks, Sam Darnold stinks, and you watch two QBs try to out bleep up each other. I mean, what was Sam doing? I get it, you don't have Kubiak. You don't have the best running back on the planet. Sam, you're throwing a ball in a harm's way in fourth quarter and overtime situation. The overtime pick, forget it. You may as well tell me it was blindfolded. And then Bo Nicks, you got Sean Payton popping gum. He should be popping magic mushrooms. He can't, he's trying, Bo, Bo, babe, I need you to throw at seven yards. No, no, I can't do it, coach.

Boomer, neither of these teams is going anywhere if that's the quarterback play. True or false?

Boomer Esiason (1:40)

Well, I would say true, but both teams do have top end defences, which will keep them in every game. And once, I think, you know, Sam Dornal after the game on Thursday night took total ownership, and rightfully so, he should have. He knows better than that, and he knows trying to fit balls in the sideline, when a safety is basically duping him into doing that. He's got to be smarter than that. He recognizes that he's already got too many interceptions. He's got seven on the year. And, you know, that's the killer. That's the thing that drives coaches crazy. On the other side, you have a completely different set of circumstances. And I think Ryan Fitzpatrick basically said the right thing right after the game, that, you know, he's not Bo Nicks is not competitive enough as a quarterback. And there's a lack of confidence in throwing the ball down the field. And I know one thing about Sean Payton, all those years he had Drew Brees. It was all about throwing the ball down the field. It was about getting big plays from your wide receivers.

And the Broncos have really good wide receivers that for some reason, he is just not willing to pull the trigger to get the ball thrown down the field. What I would do is in their next game, and I don't know who they're playing yet, but in their next game, what I would do is I go out there and I throw the ball 50 times with Bo Nicks because eventually, if you want to win the Super Bowl, which is the ultimate goal, and you want to go through Patrick Mahomes, you're going to have to throw the ball down the field, and they're going to have to work on that significantly over the next 10 days.

Mike Valenti (3:00)

Let's get to the rundown, shall we?

SPEAKER_1 (3:02)

The NFL Rundown.

Mike Valenti (3:05)

We got malpractice doubled it. We're going to lead with this because then we have real football to talk about. I want to start though, Quinn Daniels, your former quarterback.

I don't know how anyone, you know, high school, you know what to do. Whose fault is it? Because I'll tell you one thing, Daniels did not curry any favor to me.

I don't know what the hell he was thinking going up there and trying to pass blame. Buddy, look at the clock. Look at the situation. I don't care if your coach calls the annexation of Puerto Rico, the Fumble Ruski, the Philly Special. You know better. You just say, no, we ain't doing that. And you spike the ball and you kick the field goal. I mean, tell me whose fault that is, because I was in disbelief watching that.

Boomer Esiason (3:45)

All right, I'm going to tell you what I've said here in New York all week long. If he were a rookie, if Jaden Daniels were a rookie, I'd put it on David Blau, the offense coordinator and Dan Quinn.
