I've been waiting for this since you interviewed me and made my life a living hell because I was like, where is she going to take this conversation? Only Keke could put me in these uncomfortable places.
**Jay Shetty** (2:20)
Oh my gosh. Hey, it's Jay.
**Jay Shetty** (2:23)
I don't know what your day has been like, but I was just thinking about you for a minute. I hope you're being a little patient with yourself because you deserve it. Yeah, I'll talk to you soon.
Keke Palmer, welcome to On Purpose.
**Keke Palmer** (2:47)
Jay, I'm so happy to talk to you. I just know we're going to have such a great conversation. I just love it.
**Jay Shetty** (2:52)
Keke, I wanted to start with you do so much. I just talked about it. Film, television, podcasting, music, businesswoman, entrepreneur, mother. When do you feel the most like Lauren?
**Keke Palmer** (3:02)
When I allow myself to have uncomfortable feelings.
Because I think that that's what I've been working on getting back to because being able to do all the stuff I do and on the road to success, I was trying so hard to just be the best and be in a good mood and be ready. So the part that really got pushed down was like the human part, the one that just sometimes is sad and that doesn't feel very strong, that doesn't feel very capable. So what I'm learning is the more that I honor the space for that and when I tell people like, hey, I could probably push it and do this, but I would rather not, that's the part of me that has not gotten a lot of air. So I feel really good when I'm honoring the fact that I might have a larger capacity, but it's okay if I can't give it out right now.
**Jay Shetty** (3:50)
Does that part ever win or does it lose?
**Keke Palmer** (3:52)
It's getting better now. Most of my life, crazy, it's one, the part that just pushes through, that's been guiding everything to the point of being disembodied in moments. I think that having my son brought me to a place of presence as kids do, where I started to realize that maybe that disconnection was happening.
Now, I'm more active in being like, it's okay if you don't have it. It's okay if you don't feel like I had something I was supposed to do after this, but my day got pushed back and I was late coming here. I was like, I said, I can't do it.
The old me would have still tried to push through. I don't mean to say the old me, but part of me that was habitually thinking that what other people wanted was greater than what I needed for myself. That side of me is, I'm aware of it now. So I can say, look, I don't have it. And that makes me feel really, truly confident and secure.
