Following the Lions victory, 31 to 24 over the New York Jets. It got a little sticky there. The Jets scoring with 4 minutes left to make it 24-24. They got the two-point conversion. Goff rallied with a long pass to Isaac Tesla. They score at the Jets, then, well, they fumbled actually on the final sack. Just at the end, we'll have more details coming up.

Eli is here brought to you by Dr. Yeldo with Sports For This Week.

Eli Zaret (0:56)

My turn?

Jim Bentley (0:58)

Did that not sound clear?

Eli Zaret (1:01)

Oh, jeez, what a very entertaining game. I mean, you must say, there was a stretch there. The Lions lost the first two possessions. Goff got sacked, so they looked like they were a little bundled up on offense. But there was a stretch there where they were down 7-3.

And in the next part of the second quarter and start of the third, they scored on four straight possessions. And the game looked pretty well in hand. Jameer Gibbs was just amazing.

Mark (1:34)

Some people are saying he was Barry S.

Eli Zaret (1:36)

We were joking. Every time. There were so many times he'd be hemmed in on the side. He'd be cut across the field. He scored at least one rushing and one passing. I don't know how many TDs he got in the day, but... Two. Okay, one of each, but just a really remarkable performance. It was a very entertaining game.

It looked over basically at 24 to 10, near the end of the third quarter, after those four straight drives, including the three touchdowns. But then the Jets came back. Two long passes, one to that Sadiq, the kid from Oregon was amazing today, the rookie. Hutchinson, a big sack, but the Jets kept on going. Finally, a touchdown to Jeremy Rucker, a 24 to 16

But the next series, after the Lions, let's see, they stopped on fourth and one. Oh, that was awful. Oh, yeah, so they were...

Jim Bentley (2:30)

Why do we always have to run it up the middle? It seems like we get stopped on third and one and fourth and one more than we should.

Eli Zaret (2:37)

Yeah.

Mark (2:38)

Yeah, I thought they were better on third down, third and short today.

Eli Zaret (2:42)

They ran the ball well, otherwise. That was just, you know, everybody knows it's gonna happen.

Jim Bentley (2:48)

I just had a bad feeling about that particular play. I was like, if they run up the middle, I can see us getting stopped. Whereas it just seemed like we used to have a little more in the play, in the bag of tricks, than up the middle on third and one.

Mark (3:00)

I thought it was weird about that drive.

Eli Zaret (3:01)

You're right, there used to be some real creativity on fourth down, back when Campbell was the star of the league and in his daring do for on fourth down.

Mark (3:10)

But they got that first down right away, and then the next two runs were, I can never pronounce his name, Vakai, the guy from Utah.

Jim Bentley (3:18)

Sion Vakai.

Mark (3:19)

Why are we running him?

Jim Bentley (3:20)

I know, I have no idea.

Eli Zaret (3:21)

Well, because he's the backup running back. I mean, how many touches did Gibbs have today?

Mark (3:26)

He hit 20 for 99 He only had 20 carries. That's not that many.

Jim Bentley (3:30)

I would just rather see Goff throw the ball than run the backup running back a couple of times.

Mark (3:36)

Yeah, and he didn't run that bad, but at that point, you got to at least get a couple of first downs.

Jim Bentley (3:44)

Hell, yeah.

Eli Zaret (3:45)

Well, so they miss on fourth and one, and then the Jets come right back. This Garrett Wilson, he had four catches on the drive and the one at the goal line on fourth and sixth, I think it was, and they go for it. What a tremendous catch juggling it. DJ Reid had his hand right in there, not looking at the ball, but he could have, if it was an inch or two either way, he would have knocked it out of the way. Wilson falls on his butt, and they challenge it. It's a touchdown, and they get a two-point conversion. So now, the Lions get the ball back. What, about two and a half minutes left? They score in almost instantaneously.
