We good? Okay, oh, sorry.

Chatting about kombucha. I just want to say before this podcast starts, you fucked up, Bellator. You fucked up. You fucked up. I've been telling everybody that Jimmy Smith's the best out there forever, and you let him go.

That's a huge error on their part. We can't talk about anything.

Jimmy Smith (0:21)

It is what it is.

Joe Rogan (0:22)

It might be like some future news. We can't talk about that.

We can't.

Jimmy Smith (0:26)

But the past is up for discussion.

Joe Rogan (0:29)

The past is up for discussion. I would be thrilled if somehow or another they were able to work it out where Jimmy Smith was at the UFC.

Jimmy Smith (0:36)

We shall see.

Joe Rogan (0:37)

That would be what I would like to see.

Jimmy Smith (0:39)

We shall see how that goes.

Joe Rogan (0:40)

I would like to see that.

Jimmy Smith (0:40)

We will.

Joe Rogan (0:42)

That's a big fuck up.

Jimmy Smith (0:43)

Yeah, man. It was, let me say, there's a little background. A lot of people have been asking me. I haven't made any real public statements other than.

Yeah, no, Bellator's.

Joe Rogan (0:52)

Frosted Boar, never been a Bellator hater. Respect, I enjoy watching it, I like the fighters.

And I've always told everybody that you were the best out there.

Jimmy Smith (0:58)

Thank you so much.

Joe Rogan (0:59)

You do an amazing job.

Jimmy Smith (1:00)

I really appreciate that. Number one, yeah, it's not a Bellator thing. I mean, they were great to work with, they were great about the whole breakup thing.

Joe Rogan (1:09)

Someone say it.

Jimmy Smith (1:10)

Yeah, so what happened was I had a deal with an option year and 2018 was my option year.

And when I was in Verona, New York, doing the Verona show, my boss sat me down and he said, we're not gonna renew 2018, we want a different deal. And when they come to you and say, we want a different deal.

Joe Rogan (1:29)

They want a downgrade.

Jimmy Smith (1:30)

It's never, it's never, when your girlfriend comes to you and says, I wanna talk, it's never, I don't give enough blow jobs. That's never, that's never what they, they never say that. It's always-

Joe Rogan (1:40)

I'm gonna be a better girlfriend.

Jimmy Smith (1:42)

Exactly, yeah, it's always bad, it's always bad. So yeah, that was it. When they were like, we wanna change the deal around.

They did make an honest effort to keep me. They really tried, but they just, they didn't make an offer that was worth me coming back. And that was pretty much the deal. So it's kind of an amicable, comparatively amicable.

Joe Rogan (2:03)

It's fascinating to me that in the world of mixed martial arts, professional mixed martial arts, there haven't been that many people that have done what you and I both do. This is a small handful of people.

Jimmy Smith (2:14)

You know what the weird thing is about our job, really, and I mean this from the bottom of my heart, everybody thinks they got a guy.

It's one of those jobs that everybody thinks they can do, that they really go, we'll just throw a fighter in and then he'll be able to do it. I've seen, I don't know how many of them, they want to do, you know, even locker room interviews, I want to get an ex fighter to do that. And it's a job, it's a skill. It's really, I mean, it's one of those things where everybody thinks they can throw somebody in and do it. And I've seen, I don't know how many try. And it's tough, you really have to work at it or have a knack for it. It's not the kind of thing that, it's almost like coaching. I mean, how many times you heard, I've heard of great, great jiu-jitsu guys, like, he's just not a great, he's naturally really good. He's not that good at teaching him because to him, it just works. And then you try and it doesn't work. You know, it's one of those things where a great fighter isn't a great coach.

Joe Rogan (3:02)

Right, sometimes, yeah.

Jimmy Smith (3:04)

A great fighter isn't necessarily a great broadcaster. It just doesn't work that way.

Joe Rogan (3:07)

Yeah, some guys are just naturally good at it though. Like, Cormier is naturally fun. Like when Rose Namaunis knocked out Yohanun and Jacek, he starts yelling, Thug Rose, Thug Rose!

That's just pure personality. Like you either have that in you, or you can't fake yelling out Thug Rose after Rose Namaunis, KO's or...
