Welcome back to The Mina Kimes Show featuring Lenny, Monday Night Football Recap Edition. I feel like last night's game merits that voice. We are also here in addition to talking about the Bills triumphant win over LA. We're going to talk about some winners, some losers from the weekend, the Niners, Packers are going to come up. We're going to talk about Marvin Harrison Jr. trade via one loser. You had to listen to find out. But first, of course, we're going to talk about last night's game.
I can't decide if it's funny, right? Because if you told me that it was 37 to 34, and I didn't see the box for anything, I think in my head, the game would have looked so different from how it ended up being, which is to say, I would have pictured Stafford and Allen slinging it all over the field, some just crazy pass plays, and we got to that score without that happening, which I kind of find fascinating, Ben.
Ben Solak (1:03)
The 37 to 34 Bills win. I make you guess, did Allen have 12 completions or 52 completions? Which one would you have picked? When would you have picked?
Mina Kimes (1:12)
In a heartbeat.
Ben Solak (1:13)
And I honestly, I find this game extremely important because the first three quarters were defined by a little bit of our modern football that at times, Kyle Kuyper has called for the abolishment of too high. This modern football is a little bit less fireworks and sizzles, a little bit less sexy, right? There was a lot of, we're taking what the defense gives us structurally, we're running the football, we're managing the clock, this is about situational. So it was not the sort of welterweight star quarterback game that we were accustomed to in 2019, 2020, when it felt like every game would just be quarterback sensation highlights forever. And then we got to the fourth quarter, we got to overtime and we were reminded, no, we can actually play a full complete game with both stages, right? With the Clark Kent stage for these quarterbacks and then the Superhero Cape stage for these quarterbacks and it will be a delightful television product regardless. So this game I thought was very, like it was illustrative about how we can live in some of these 12 completions, 19 attempts world and still have a roaring good time.

And there's been a few, like the Niner Seahawks game was another one where I think the score was a little bit misleading. You look at that, you think bombs away and in reality it was turnovers and then the Niners offense coming alive at the end in meaningful fashion. But yeah, it's been a weird scene. I think it's just what we're discussing is sort of indicative of like what the really good teams are like and how it's a slightly different era of football from insane Monday night points. Unless you're playing the Lions or you are the Lions and then it's 2021 all over again, baby. But let's talk about the Bill side of it. Okay, so look, we're obviously going to get into the Rams, special teams, miscues, the game management failures, Sean McVay, the conservativism, all of that, and what needs to be fixed in LA, which is undoubtedly a big part of this game and also for the Rams moving forward. But this wasn't one, I don't think like it's similar to like, we're going to talk about some of the insane coaching malpractice over the weekend later. Like, look, Sean McVay made some errors, but I'm not like, wow, the Rams overwhelmingly should have won this game. That's not at all what happened. The Bills did a few things very well, and the thing that they, of course, did at the highest level, and Bills is an incorrect way of putting it, it's one bill.
It was a Josh Allen actual Buffalo game. That's what I call them. When Josh Allen, decides, I'm just going to become a Buffalo and embody the mascot and run all over you, which is exactly what happened. Just let me read some of the next gen stats from this.
107 yards on scrambles, he had 121, I think total, right? The most by any player in a season, of course. The third most in the next gen stats era. The next gen stats says, since 2016, he has rushed for 100 yards on scrambles twice. The rest of the NFL has also done it twice.
So I don't know what there is to be said. He's a gigantic, fast, fearless man.
Ben Solak (4:10)
Yeah.
Mina Kimes (4:12)
Did the Rams completely F it, I guess. And I know, I'm not, again, I know, I want to put that away. Well, I'm not saying, we have, Allen is a unique, he's a unicorn. He's, it's very hard to stop. There's a reason why those stats exist, why he's the only guy.
