All right, so we got a couple of little obituaries here. This first one from the obituary section of the Los Angeles Times, Wednesday, August 5th, 2026 Daniel Jake Jacobs, author unknown.

Daniel Jake Jacobs was born January 5th, 1945 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Burbank and lived in the San Fernando Valley for 23 years where he attended Notre Dame High School, Valley College, and Pierce College. For the exception of a few years in San Jose and Phoenix, he lived most of his life in Valencia, California. His career was in horticulture relating to the greenhouse, nursery, and landscape industries. The family business Jacob's Brothers Textile Company was started in 1923 and was a manufacturing and distribution company that shipped worldwide. The main office in manufacturing were a home based in Sepulveda with facilities in San Jose and a separate corporation, Jacob's Brothers Hawaii Limited that served the islands.

Jake was an avid golfer and a long-time member of Valencia CC. His artistic and creative efforts were in woodworking, carving and cooking a great meal for family and friends. Quick-witted, with a hearty laugh, he loved humor and enjoyed his friends even at his own expense. Jake is survived by his former wife, Jerry, with whom he remained friends, son, Brian, Tricia, grandchildren, Katie, Allison and Jack, and his daughter, Danielle, Ben, and step-granddaughter, Azuri, along with two nieces and nephews, the children of his brother Don who passed away in 2014

Cremation with no services were his wishes. Raise a glass or send a donation to St. Jude's Research Hospital for children in his memory. That was Daniel Jake Jacobs, from the author unknown from the obituary section of the Los Angeles Times, Wednesday, August 5th, 2025

This last one is from the obituary section of the Los Angeles Times Saturday, August 8th, 2025 Gisela Zukor, July 20, 1937 to March 7, 2026, author unknown. Gisela Zukor, née Jenenis, died in Santa Monica on March 7, 2026 from the after effects of a stroke she sustained in January 2026

Gisela was born on July 20, 1937 in Stettin, Germany, now Cessna, Poland, on the eve of World War II, an auspicious time and place to be born. She had a difficult childhood marked by bombing, strafing, malnutrition, disease, TB, typhoid, scarlet fever, measles, mumps, diphtheria, financial stress and an abusive father. She somehow emerged from those struggles as a charming, witty, adventurous spirit able to maintain a surprising number of very close friends until the end of her life. Although she became an American citizen, she felt discrimination because of her German origin despite having been a small child during Nazi times, a regime that caused her only suffering.

From an early age, Gisela had a strong interest in languages, ultimately speaking for fluently. With a special interest in Spanish, Gisela saved three months salary she had been giving practically all to her parents and went to Spain, hoping to get a job, otherwise staying until the money ran out. She found a job in Barcelona, staying two years and learned to speak accent-free Spanish along with some Catalan. Speaking Spanish gave her a great deal of pleasure, both in a subsequent job at the Mexican Consulate in Hamburg, and later in daily life in Southern California, where she would startle local Hispanics as a blonde speaking beautiful Spanish. Her Spanish also came in handy during her nine years volunteering at the local domestic violence clinic, where she interviewed clients, prepared documents for restraining orders, and made court appearances.

Gisela was pre-deceased by her parents Helmut and Sonny Genenz, her older sister Susie Nielsen and son-in-law Joel Fajans. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Jimmy Zucor, and by daughters Karen and Susie Zucor, son-in-law Michael Bogatz, as well as grandchildren Celia, Eugene, and Macy Bogatz, Aidan and Nathaniel Copeland, Abraham Zucor, and Rose Fajans. Gisela faithfully read and enjoyed the times often quirky obituaries, so it seemed appropriate for her to have one of her own.

That was Gisela Zucor, July 20, 1937 to March 7, 2026, author unknown from the obituary section of the Los Angeles Times, Saturday, August 8, 2026 All right, on to Israel stories from the world section of the Los Angeles Times, Friday, August 7, 2026 Israel accused of targeting reporter in fatal airstrike by Kareem Chehayeb Beirut. Global and Lebanese rights group on Thursday accused Israel of intentionally targeting and killing Lebanese journalist Amal Khalil earlier this year and obstructing medical workers from reaching her as she lay critically wounded.
