We're starting with a couple of little obituaries here from the obituary section of the Los Angeles Times Thursday, July 16, 2026 Sandra Krentzman, author unknown.
The family and friends of Sandy Krentzman just lost a real life Lucy, talking her way out of life's predicaments with a one-of-a-kind Syrian personality that generated laughter and love from everyone she ever met and knew. Irreplaceable to be sure, 70 years of Shabbat dinners, Jewish holidays, and break the fast celebrations with the Kohl, Krentzman and Attie families, and invited guests, the Simcha's will never be the same. Surrounded with so much love in her last days by her adoring sons, Adam, Greg, Sophie and Chet, precious grandchildren Oliver, Lola, Akira and Mia, and the many wonderful nieces, nephews and their kids, her lifelong friends and devoted caretakers, her sister Phyllis always by her side then now forever. And of course, her brother Mike. All the hundreds of family get-togethers and traditions begun by her parents, Ellie and Nan Attie of Blessed Memory will continue on. With husband Paul and brother-in-law Milt of both of Blessed Memory, they all dined, traveled, played and co-owned Century Cities M. Cole, the store that every Westside woman loved. Sandy and Paul helped establish Stephen S. Wise Temple, where Sandy served as First Lady for many years with Paul as its long-term president. As a professional decorator, she brought incredible beauty to the many homes of her family, friends and clients and those colorful, stylish Sandy outfits. Her wonderful paintings and sculptures fill our homes.

That was Sandra Krenzman, author unknown from the obituary section of the Los Angeles Times, by Thursday, July 16, 2026 This next one is from the obituary section of the Los Angeles Times, Sunday, July 19, 2026 Thomas Roger Gilman, June 1946 to July 4, 2026, author unknown. Tom was born on June 13, 1946 in Ohio to Esther and Sid Gilman. Due to Sid's coaching career, they moved to Southern California in 1955 After graduating from high school in San Diego, Tom moved on to UC Berkeley where he graduated in 1968 He then earned his master's degree at University College in London in Latin American Studies. He returned to Cal for a teaching degree and subsequently taught high school Spanish in the Bay Area.
After moving to Los Angeles in the late 1970s, he and their then partner Ronnie Romoff co-wrote a high-end menswear and accessories shop hardware in West Hollywood, on Melrose and a seasonal shop at New York's Fire Island Pines, and then Studio City in Santa Monica. He met his life partner Bill Echil on January 31, 1997 in San Francisco through AOL. Three months later, on the day of Tom's first back surgery, Bill moved in with Tom and they built a business reselling high-end jewelry, art antiques online for clients globally. They got their marriage license during the pandemic on November 2, 2020, and as was their way, waited until the last possible moment to use the appointment, which just happened to be also January 31
They went to the Justice of the Peace in Long Beach, who happened to be the one who married the first gay couple when it was legalized in California. Tom was survived by his husband and partner Bill Echil, 28.5 years, their Siamese cats Cyrus and Sophia, as well as three older sisters, Lyle Gilman, Bobby Corbin and Terry Hill. They, in addition to multiple cousins, nieces and nephews and huge numbers of friends and clients will miss him dearly. Tom died on the early morning of July 4th from the acute deterioration of chronic peripheral vascular disease at the age of 80 Many thanks to all of UCLA staff, as well as UCLA's Care Center, Dr. Artis Mo, for their compassionate care through the many, many years of service. Especially Dr. Ron Mitsuyasu of the Care Center, who had been his doctor since his HIV diagnosis in 1984 Without Dr. Ron, this obit would have been written in 1984
